Soy Milk
 
You give me a glass of soy milk.
Tell me it will make me stout and strong.
But it chokes me and makes me weak.
My face turns blue, and then I leak.
 
Your face lies, like Picasso,
Like the flat earth philosophers.
Words set on the horizon,
Things are not what they seem to be.
 
You say “I’m just a flower bud
Stuff me down the barrel of a gun
So I can bloom quickly
And become beautiful.”
 
Between your eyes is the galaxy,
A matrix of constellations flickers.
Like a lamp, in a cheap motel.

There's no screen for your stories though.

Ken Markovic aka "Daisyfish," has been penning songs since his college days at Millikin.  His music is a blend of Indie Folk, Americana, Country, Alternative rock, Blues, and Pop.  Ken takes influence from artists like Pete Yorn, Sam Beam (Iron and Wine), Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), The Avett Brothers, Amos Lee, and The Lumineers. He currently works as a school social worker and uses music as a therapeutic tool for students, teaching them valuable coping skills and healthy ways to express themselves.  Ken focuses on using the healing powers of music.  He teaches kids how to write poetry and songs.  Ken's hit song "Love Song," has been featured on Folk Union in Chelmsford, England.   He has performed in Suburban Chicago's Got Talent and made the Top Ten.  He moved to Nashville for a year where he signed with Lower Broadway Records and recorded the song "Cynthia," which can be found on Soundcloud.  He has performed at popular venues like The Bluebird Cafe, Cafe Coco, and Tin Roof in Nashville; and Schuba's, Gallery Cabaret, and Uncommon Ground in Chicago.   In August of 2017, Ken joined the late Drew Neely (of Drew Neely and The Heroes) at Thrifty Records.  Together with Drew, Violinist Dan Fearn, and Grammy Nominated artist Jenny Franck, they started the group, "Ken Markovic and the New Poets." The band released two singles , "Waves" and "Wild Things," which can be found i-Tunes, Amazon, Pandora, Spotify, and most digital distributors.  Ken's songs weave intricate stories which reference his trauma, struggles with addiction, success in recovery, grief, nature, and faith.
