Solo Pieces

Expressive, lyrical, passionate and dramatic, this work was written for Patrick Yim. It is a short solo for violin, building on some of J.S. Bach's techniques.

Soundscape No. 1 (Violin Solo)

After many years, I picked up the bassoon again. To celebrate, I wrote myself this solo work. It is based on a few notes near the end of the first movement of Bach's Solo Cello Suite No. 1 in G.

Soundscape No. 2 (Bassoon One)

Back in high school, one of my best friends was a Tuba player. His performance of the Vaughn-WIlliams Tuba Concerto opened my eyes to the expressive capabilities of this noble instrument. 

I wrote my first tuba solo in a work for symphonic band, which I conducted when I was 15.

Two of my current friends are Tuba players.

When I got together with a more recent tuba-player friend, our discussions led to this updated version.

Soundscape No. 3 (Solo For Tuba)

I wrote this euphonium piece for my friend, Sam "Rabbi" Rudra SWartz. It is based on my Soundscape No. 3.

Sam has graciously allowed me to use his magnificent portrait to enhance this track.

Soundscape No. 3 B (Solo For Euphonium)

Kenneth Lieberson is a composer of symphonies, concertos, ballets, cantatas, tone poems, opera, chamber music, songs. His music has been heard on National Public Radio, at The Library of Congress, Lincoln Center, Queens College, NYU, Stony Brook, CAMI Hall, Merkin Hall and at high and middle schools. His B. M. and M. M. are from Juilliard. He also earned an M.B.A. at NYU's Stern School of Business.

Mr. Lieberson has also written two novellas, dozens of short stories and hundreds of poems.  He illustrated some of these.
