40 days ago, my uncle passed away from cancer. It's been a difficult few months for the family, especially for my mom, who he was very close with. It was also the first death of a family member that I've experienced. These past 40 days, I've felt so many different conflicting emotions at the same time. I've had feelings of sadness, regret and inspiration: sadness because of the fact he's no longer around; regret that I wasn't able to spend time with him during his final days and inspired by the story of his life, how he overcame adversity and how he, ultimately, became successful. I also just didn't know what to say to anyone - I didn't know how to comfort my mom, my aunt, my cousins, my grandparents...

I wrote this song as a tribute to him, to express everything that I've been feeling these past 40 days and to pay tribute to a man who has made such a massive impact on the lives of my family members.

When my mom followed your footsteps to seek new lives for her kids
Back when she was going through hell
Kept her grounded on what was real
So when I heard that it was terminal
I just couldn't say farewell
