so, this is my essential mix. i want to say a few things about it!

before writing "worlds", i'd been feeling kinda pessimistic about the future of electronic music. so once i was done writing "worlds" over the course of 2~ish years, i just felt the need to find new stuff that i loved. i did a ton of soundcloud digging, basically, and most of the music in this mix was music i found that way. that's not to say that there aren't classics or songs i've known for a while here, but it's mostly new music.

then BBC radio 1 asked me to do an essential mix, and it seemed like the perfect way to showcase new stuff i was into.

i also feel like it's important to point out that this mix isn't what the worlds tour is going to sound like, really - that tour is going to be only my own music. all originals. (also it's going to be a blast and a visual journey and other stuff i can't talk about yet ehehe).

Here is a recording of my set at Far Away in Los Angeles that happened recently. I was the only DJ that night and I played from doors till close. Unfortunately the recording cut out during the night and we are missing the last 90 minutes. There are still the first 4.5 hours here for you to enjoy though.

Lane 8 Winter 2016 Mixtape

Electroclash. Bloghaus. Nudisco. Indie-dance… we started coming up in NYC when dance music was just beginning to make waves into the mainstream and clubs were playing new and experimental sounds that were raw, authentic, sexy, and fun.

We were djing 5-6 nights a week all over town at night and producing remixes during the day. We loved the open-format and genre-fusing approach that came to define this era of NYC nightlife between 2008-2011 ish. This music and this scene inspired us as artists and shaped the music of what The Knocks is today.

Every Monday night we would throw a party at Le Royale [RIP] until 6 AM. We miss that music and those vibes so we put together this mix to give you a taste inside that madness.
