STRANGE BALANCES AND MIDNIGHT REFLECTIONS

Wow!

Doing this with https://soundcloud.com/florian-luethi-59518579 really managed to create very uncomfy feelings in the first place..... I am very afar from the point where i would call myself a Keyboardplayer or a "Keyboardist", but that is something i really want to achieve some day. Then there is this Swiss Army Knive of a man, playing in a Band, playing in a Bigband, reinventing old classics, playing the Keys like a young god - how can you keep up with someone like him.

He sent me the first stem back then , i think in April 2021... and said that he want it to be our thing. There was a  toiletpaperroll kind of instructions which came along with it and music sheets which i really cannot read. Thank you, goddamn! AHahahah.  It is also slow, has various changes in timing and there is also a short variation in a part with a bpm change. 

Adding this into my DAW and setting it up was one thing, finding the right key to jam along with it and trying to go JAZZ was a complete different take. Holy SH*T. 

I prelistened alot this two milestone versions out there:
Thelonious Monk Quartet - 'Round Midnight -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yg7aZpIXRI and
Miles Davis Quintet - 'Round Midnight - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIgLt7LAZF0, and while doing so, i felt terrible feeble and developed some slight depression torwards the thing which Mr. Lüthi sent me. I was flatterned, that he thought i can keep up with something like that, but also frightened AF.

So i did listen to his version and i simply was not able to do it. I gladly was able to work on any music, but going 42 BPM, sorry, i fucking started going idle ... so slooooooooooow!!! (Remember : Dawn of Damn is 160 bpm - so this track here is a bout 4 times slower). After many months i finally set everything up and for another few months tried to play something to it - progress about to be aligned with those BPM hahah....

Late but nevertheless, the inspiration finally came and while i tried to line up with this jazzy thing, Florian wanted the FY - Mojo and Crazyness, so he completely changed the whole base for the song and bam bam bam - boomarang!! We both hope that you enjoy this new version of a classic which has been re-issued about 2000 times! We are pretty confident, that this version is quite different... :)

Thank you Florian for the possibility to do this with you and all your patience, your super cool uplifting attitude and positive and constructive critic! Also pretty happy, that he allowed me to collaborate with his unique drawing style. I really tried to adapt and went full drawing mode this time! This was so much fun!

Bills note:
This EP and especially this song has been very difficult to put together. Yes, we wanted to release this in November but it just wouldn't happen. I tried but I'm a miserable failure.

Melissa was able to make the melody work. She changed it from what I originally created and I'm glad for that! The result is quite good.
This is all real music and sounds quite similar to what someone could hear at the majority of our gigs these days.
We find ourselves doing quieter acoustic kind of shows, but hey, that's not a bad thing is it?
 (By the way - I really have no patience for people who put "helpful" comments about the sound of the kick drum or the snare or the synth sounds I used. THERE ARE NONE! It is just a piano, a voice and a cajon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caj%C3%B3n That's all.)
Will is my right hand man. Hopefully you can hear the interplay between the piano and the percussion. To me, his percussion playing really adds a cathartic energy as the piece goes on.

Balance

This is an intercontinental collaboration with the amazing artist Sonic Structures and Silent Stretches. We waded in vague volleys until form took shape. They describe it well here:

the lyrics: We started out with random fragments of phonemes that solidfied into several iterations of lyrics. the version of the lyrics sounded out here is composed by RANSOM AND THE MOOD and somewhat inspired by me.
the sounds: the basic song was created by RANSOM and I picked up on his cues and did my best to develop them further.

DOUBLE WIRED

This song is a new one written this year and it's about how we've all become Broken Mirrors in some way. All of us, we were a loving people, not a cruel people, we were a caring people, not a hateful people, we were a hard working and strong people but also a very fragile people and I feel we've become a little bit more shattered in recent years. Our beliefs and hopes have diminished somewhat and this song reflects that broken mirror in us all. It's harder and harder to stay positive in this crazy hateful world today. I sang this one since Charlie was not available. I think the mix was too loud but I'm having problems with my computer and couldn't adjust the sound in my film editor like I usually do.

I worked hard on the video and tried to follow the lyrics as close as possible. It will drop on August 1st on YouTube. It's about our lack of empathy as of late and this constant hatred for other people that I now sense in this great country of ours!.  So I asked myself, how did we get here? When a country starts depriving its citizens of basic needs like healthcare and not helping our senior citizens and ignoring the less fortunate among us and stop assistance for veterans (like me) that risked our lives for this country, then we're on a road to destruction and our government has failed us. This song began back at the beginning of the summer, when Josh was messing around on his electric piano and found a structure to which to add his bass. As soon as he opened the project to the rest of Eclectic Collective, JJ jumped right in, adding his thrilling organ and ethereal background synth. Thus, Josh dropped his original e. piano part in favour of JJ's new parts. Ken was next up, adding the drums in reverse order from how he and Josh usually do it. Ken is very skilled at being able to add drums to a pre-existing bass line, which he displays in here. He also added the clever auxiliary percussion you hear throughout. Mark was next up, adding his funky clavinet, as well as his sax solo you hear lighting it up in there. He also added that synth horns arrangement leading into the last chorus. 
  Then it was time for the guitarists to do their thing. Stephen added the strong, melodic solos in the first two breaks with his guitar and wah pedal. After Tez added his thrilling solos at the end, Stephen went back in and added the funky rhythm guitar part. Tez also added the funky guitar riffs throughout the verses.
  All that was left was to get Carl in on the action, as he is the newest core member of Eclectic Collective. He wrote a poem and sung it in his signature, wild style for us.
  This is Eclectic Collective at almost full strength, pulling six musicians from two different continents and four different countries together to create a song. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
   On a side note, this will be Eclectic Collective's last song for two weeks. As most of you know, we release a song every Thursday at midnight. Due to vacation and travel at the end of summer, we'll be skipping  next Friday, the 15th, but should be returning the following Friday, the 22nd. We may also put something out this coming Tuesday, the 12th, so please stay tuned. Can't thank enough those of you who tune in regularly and support us every week.

Note: 'Psychedelic Dance Well Shadow' - is spelled downwards on the left hand side. Strangely, this form of writing does limit your scope, however it makes a decision for you on every line so in a way it can help your flow as you are forced into a foundation for every sentence and not left with thinking of everything each time for each line. You have direction. This can remove writing blockages sometimes. Having technical reasons that inspire can sometimes be as important as your intuition when deciding on an idea. The technicality you bring in can always activate your intuition so I'd recommend considering it as a kick starter if ideas aren't coming your way. Add to that, the technique  encourages poetic licence so gets the imagination running in different directions so it's excellent brain food

Songster version was a little ‘copla’ about not being able to be with, nor without, a loved person.  As usual, I’ve ‘upgraded’ it, process from which you only get the final result, normally. 

But, following lyrics’ contradictions, I not only serve parts with different levels of (dis)order in heavy rock - flamenco sauce, but raw vs very cooked parts as well, starting with the improvised phone recording of the very first idea I had to develop the song, so please excuse my failures and noises.
