Rezerection Scotland 'Any ReZquests?' Mix

SO I got bored and after looking at some old Rez videos online I decided to get the old tunes out and have a wee mix.  It's been a while since I played anything like this, and I'd forgotten how difficult mixing hardcore could be compared to techno.  No longer, intertwined mixing.  Just straight to the point, chops and quick stuff.  Pretty tiring stuff!

Anyway, here's the mix, mistakes and all.  It isn't exactly all the kind of stuff I listened to back then, but Rez was never about the brutal industrial stuff.  And although I didn't really listen to it at home or anywhere else, at Rez it always sounded right!

I stopped after about 80 mins as I started to play some stuff that never really got played at Rez and was released after its untimely demise.

Social Unrest 025 October 2023

So I decided to dive back into the old hardcore stuff again.  The last Rezerection Classic mix went down pretty well so hopefully this does too.

This mix isn't flawless.  There are some skips and mistimed transitions.  That's what happens when you're too busy dancing and forget to mix!

Every track is from 93-97 (except one I played in error), when Rezerection was like a spiritual home for many across the UK, and beyond.

There's a little less bouncy stuff here, more of a Dutch sound, which was massive at Rez.

So from Evolution Records, through Shoop!, Bass Generator Records and Dwarf, to the mighty Industrial Strength.  There's a bit of it here.

So dig out your white gloves and whistles.  And think back to that beautiful big hanger at Ingliston...

This started as an outlet for me during Covid.  Since then the scene has changed so much, it's pretty much unrecognisable to me.  So with that it's time to end this.

Will something else replace it?  Right now I don't know.  It could be the end of the road in many ways.

Kenny Campbell - Fast Hard Trancin' (Recorded in the Late 90's)

For some time now I've lost interest in DJing and music in particular.  Techno in general I find pretty boring, save for a few labels who have stuck to their guns and not chased the faster, ravey sound.

I've spoken about this with others over a period and had given serious thought to stopping.  When the enjoyment is gone then what's the point.

Through one conversation in particular with someone who's opinion I trust and value greatly, I rediscovered my love of Drum & Bass.  Some mixes were recorded and shared privately, and there was a spark I hadn't had in a long time.

Bass Forged Frequency

This started off as a 180 bpm gabber track, and I accidentally twisted the bpm knob on push, slowing it down.

It then became 136 bpm of hard, industrial techno.

Just a kick drum and a vocal sample at points, with different filters and automation on the kick itself to break it up for some variation.

Might go back in and change the kick pattern at points.

Something  I've wanted to do for a very long time but always talked myself out of it as there's no way I can actually present a mix solely of @industrialstrength releases in a way that does them justice.

ISR has always been my favourite label.  It was hearing the first release that started me down the darker and harder path.  I've never looked back.

This mix is long.  I could have played so many more.  I know I've missed out some classics, and I know people will say ask why I played certain tracks but missed others.  I have no answer.  I had the records out and then went for it.  All I wanted to do was make sure I played at least one track from the 49 releases that came out in the 90s.  I achieved that.
