Doomsday Braves is the name  I use for my one man rock/metal musical fiddlings. No band exists.

It's a miserable wee listen but there we go. More upbeat stuff is in the pipeline.

Doomsday Braves - Big 'n' Heavy

Over A Small Town is my first album and was released on the 29th of September 2009.

Around 2005 I decided to start looking into writing music on the PC, having dabbled with multitrackers and drum machines over the years but finding them a bit restrictive. I bought some software in 2006 called Reason 3 by Propellerhead and instantly found it easy enough to use and get started with.

The album took it's time coming together, a mixture of me trying to figure the program out plus wondering where to go with the music.

Over time, I found a basic vibe emerging that could grow into an album and before I knew it I had a handful of tunes on my side.

The inspiration was taken from a favourite nearby back road plus many others around the town where I live. My girlfriend and I used to go out walks and the peace and quiet was excellent. Away from the neighbours dog barking or the kids down the street shouting and screaming. The album is as much about escapism as it is about setting an atmosphere for the listener.

I'm proud of my work on the album and feel I've managed to capture what I wanted to capture. A mix of ambient tracks plus upbeat summery stuff all at the same time to give those who want it some nice background music.

Aonaran - Over A Small Town

Observer is the name of my second album which was released on the 7th of March 2010.

This album is made up entirely of piano pieces with little extras thrown in along the way. I feel this is the album that, so far, I have found precisely what I wanted to find. The long notes, the reverbs and delays all come together very well to give the right feeling I was looking for.

The tunes are very simple, very delicate and gentle and don't impose on the listener in any way. If you've set your volume right, this album should really blend into the background easily.

The inspiration was from those idle days when you look outside and not much is happening, just a calm day. A wind blowing down the road, a light rain falling as the clouds pass silently overhead and unannounced. You either feel it or you don't.

The title of the album and of the songs are literal and self explanatory. You sit, you watch, you observe without judgement, you gaze for a while and see things others might not see and give them a voice.

That is the Observer album and that is the idea behind it.

Aonaran - Observer

This is my third album and was released on the 9th of March 2010.

This album is a lot darker and more atmospheric than Observer and Over A Small Town. I wanted to try getting a different feel into my stuff so decided to try going down the spacey route.

The inspiration came from a few different angles. Science fiction was the heart of the inspiration though.

When I began writing this album I had watched a film called Stranded, about astronauts being stranded on Mars and discovering that life had once been there and that they could breathe oxygen in certain areas. The second angle was that I'd read about two Italian amatuer radio enthusiasts that were convinced they had heard a helpless Russian cosmonaut drifting out into space in the 1950's and being lost. The third angle was that of the planet called Gliese. It's known as a super-earth and in a "Goldilocks Zone"...not too cold and not too warm.

I also find the idea of alien visitation interesting and terrifying at the same time. I'm not saying that I believe it's going on right now but the idea is fantastic and something that I hope I see happen before I die.

Anyway, the title track says it all really. It's about sending out radio signals into space and waiting on an answer of some kind. The gap of anticipation basically. It then flows on to landing on an alien planet and trying to imagine what it would be like to start completely fresh. A planet free of human ego and religion and all things that seem to cause conflict. It's an amazing thought but I suppose ego is the main force behind the human psyche.

On this album, I used more electronic sounds such as synths and drum machines rather than just acoustic instruments.
