Coconuts And Skulls

Midterm project for the sound pre-capstone at University of Washington CSE, 2011.  This was made generatively (w/ one or two pre-made samples) using 'Pure Data', with chords, melody, harmony, and scene staging configured by data files.  The chimes, spooky moan, and waves are all randomized somewhat, and would be different on each play of the original patch.  This is just one possible rendering, though others would sound similar enough that differences would probably not be noticeable.

This remix of FFIX's "Crystal World" and Wild Arms' "To the End of the Wilderness" came from listening to both far too many times.  The biggest pull to me was the realization that the original melody of the Prelude could be grafted onto the more melancholy, melody-less Crystal World.  It took a few years to get to a point that would be considered polished, but it was certainly worth it.  This version actually contains a small section I added after its 'final' release on OverClocked ReMix, a part that I felt added a more dramatic closing, and one that let Wild Arms pull its weight more heavily in the mix.

Another thing I have half-made from a while back, kind of a riff on another theme ostensibly for a soundtrack.  Listening to it now, it's like a weird derivative of Deus Ex and Spirit Engine technique and sampling.  Strange.

Fratricide (Kroger Lindstrom)

The usual warnings are in place: little-to-no mastering work done yet, rough draft, please don't murder me in my sleep, etc.

This is something I had in my folders for awhile, but I started poking around to see what I could do with it.  This started with a foundation of 'Sword of Doubt' from Final Fantasy IX, but I've yet to figure out where else I can take it.

The strangest thing about this is the fact that I can't get the concept of typical Japanese mecha out of my head.  Maybe it'll make a good - if horribly cheesy - launchpad for more progress.

Gears of Alexandria (WIP)

Yeaaars ago, I started to poke at making a suite of chiptunes, each themed on a planet in the solar system.  Basic, as themes go, but interesting.

The two completed songs were existing ones I retrofitted into this mold.  The remaining two were actually built with this theme in mind, and are only WIPs, but it's something I might return to someday.
