Luke Mandala At Moontribe April 2022

This is one of those sets that built up inside me, patiently awaiting its perfect moment. I found a few of these tracks some years ago and was struck by their unique flavor. Slowly but surely I built up my collection of what I would call the "indie-dance / nu-disco" sound. There is plenty of music under the blanket of those genres but much less of it out there that speaks to my personal tastes. I kept my ears open and picked them up one by one. This isn't a style that I will play often, but damn did it feel right on this beautiful sunrise morning in the desert. Smiling faces and dancing bodies radiated love and light, the speaker stacks roared and my heart was full. I hope you enjoy this set at full volume and dance yourself unabashedly into your happy place :)

Thank you to everyone that made our first 2023 gathering a success!

This is the opening set at 11pm, which ramps up to some funky, dirty breaks at around the 21 minute mark.

The first 20 minutes of chill and tribal house was crafted as an intro that sets the tone for the night, as the bonfire was lit in a spectacular fashion at about the  14 minute mark.

Live @ Moontribe Gathering March 2023

I had a short but sweet time at Bug Out Campout 4: Garden of Dreams on day 8 and 9 of my Spring Break roadtrip with my daughter, Cerise.

This set went down at midnight on a pretty frigid desert night, did my best to warm people up with some break and then some techno.  Ok, fine, there's. little house in there too :). Something for everyone, hope you enjoy!

Overall one of my faster sets, starting at 130bpm and creeping up to 132 by the end.

Definite highlight having Cerise bopping around to my breaks - she really has quite the dance moves!  She got cold tho and came and chilled for the rest of my set in back of the DJ booth while I moved more into techno.

Speaking of DJ booth, it was on point and I could hear great!  Sound system was proper for 1000, and decor and visuals were great too.  A lot of care was our into this little party, which of course is close to my heart ♡

Bug Out was intimate and fun!  I wish I had more time there but the time I was there I got to connect with some friends and some new people, all good vibes 🙂

 I hope to be back next year and stay longer- but it also  worked perfectly in this Spring Break adventure this time tbh.

Jeff Steinmetz, better known by his stage name Kepi, is an American DJ, producer and remixer.  The San Francisco Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay" readers poll voted his "Kepi & Kat" project "Best Electronic Music Act" in 2006 and 2007.

He has remixed for Danny Howells, collaborated with Desert Dwellers and has had the pleasure to perform on the same bill with friends and favorite artists like Hybrid, Grandmaster Flash, The Crystal Method, Steve Porter, Luke Fair, Rob Garza (Thievery Corporation), Dirty Bird, and so many others making great music.

For 10+ years, he continues to be an active NARAS member, and Grammy voter.  While active in NARAS, he collaborated with the SF chapter to help push forward the addition of what is now the "Best Dance/Electronica Album" category for the Grammys.

He's performed at festivals and clubs across the nation and around the world, from B.E.D. in Miami to the dance music capitol of Ibiza, Spain. Perhaps best known for regular performances at high-profile festivals and clubs such as Love Parade (now LoveFest) in San Francisco, Spundae, Release SF, Lightning in a Bottle, What The Festival, Burning Man and Moontribe.

As a trained musician, Kepi studied electronic music and composition in Minneapolis. A rabid fan of early New York breakdance beats; Kepi caught the bug early and began digging up rare tracks in every record store available. His music collection has been described as deep and genre busting. His unique sound fuses house, remixes, progressive, breaks and tech house into one mesmerizing journey. You may have experienced one of his sunrise sets in front of a Turbosound/Funktion One speaker stack at a full moon gathering – you know who you are. Broadcast nationwide 22,223 miles above earth, Kepi provided regular live sets for XM Satellite Radio “Thump Funk”.

In 2005, Kepi and Kat released their debut EP “Limelight” which immediately charted on the Balance Record Pool. The title track was featured during the launch of the Xbox 360 game “Perfect Dark Zero” and went on to appear on the limited-edition DVD and CD-soundtrack for the award-winning game, garnering world wide exposure.
