In the mid 90s I used to live in London and enjoyed weekly or twice monthly pilgrammages to underground club nights such as 'Escape from Samsara', 'Whirligig' and 'Club 414'; although most of the tracks on this playlist are more recent releases, I like to think its what inspired me to make it.

The Power Of The Darkside

A long time ago - when I used to frequent the bars and clubs of Leeds, UK - my partner in crime was my good friend Emma. At some point in the evening she would get the dance bug and wander off to grace the dimly lit dancefloors of the afterdark venues. I haven't seen her for a longtime, let alone re-experience our nights out from the past. This is a tribute to her.

Emma's Off For A Dance

A bit of genre-splicing, a party set really. A few golden classics and some very recent stuff that's getting rotation with me. Starts very funky and then gets darker and harder before lightening up and cranking up the funk again with a crowd-pleasing finish.

I had a lot of fun making this one! :-)

A Bit Of Skullduggery

Those who know me from my clubbing days, or perhaps from following my musical musings posted on here (and soundcloud) will know that I love lots of different types of music, especially electronic music. I must admit to a special fondness for the dark, funky and hard sounds from now and yesteryear. This mix features some new underground tech sounds as well as a couple of classics which fitted well (music trends are cyclic) and a few updated classics, thanks to some talented remixers with a subtle touch. For those of you who are following my musical meanderings, it can't have escaped your attention that most of my mixes tend to be quite 4/4 based. This time I thought I'd mix it up a bit (pun intended) with a few breaks cuts. A party mix if you will ... watch your bassbins, I'm telling ya!

Asterix In Space

After playing around with some darker sounds, its back to the fluffy funk for this one. A Pants Swinger no less. Although mainly new/recent tracks, the revivalist nature of the house music scene at the moment means that these tunes wouldn't have been out of place on the dancefloors of my Leeds haunts in the early 00's - Fibre and Federation. Enjoy!

Scoobie Doobie Funky Do

Am always drawn back to the dark progressive beats and twisted funk. This mix is mostly new (or recent) tracks, with the usual classic twist - current tech house releases are very much back to basics in terms of house pedigree so they blend well with some of the noughties era tracks. This was an exercise in putting together all the techniques I have re-learned whilst revisting this mixing project over the last few years.

Dirty Twisterella

A departure from my usual house offerings to demonstrate my love of driving, energy trance; with a progressive nod. Although mostly newish tracks (and the odd classic), this mix was inspired by good friend Gaz Jones who hosted many after hours late night sessions to very similar soundtrack back in the later 90s / early 00s.

Amateur DJ, on and off for about 25 years. Semi-Professional in the mid 00's but had since given up until got the bug again during the pandemic. 

I have re-learned my craft on a Hercules Impulse 500 using mp3 via DJuced and publish mixes online.
