First Fall

So today I sat down to wrok on a remix and ended up writing a piano piece instead (don't worry, I'll get on the remix after this). As I was writing this, I also thought up a little poem that goes like this (poem and music copyright 2015 Kerry Leva. All rights reserved.):

But icy grounds will make you glow

To wrap you up and hold you near
All the cars play hide and seek
In snow banks piled five feet deep
And when you think the snow has stopped
Upon you one more foot gets dropped!

When will it end?! They'll never know!
But worst of all, when tundra thaws
And epic snowfall takes a pause,
The fluffy white turns slushy grey
To all pedestrians' great dismay.

The single WAVES was performed and mixed by Francesco Berta in London, the vocal layers were written and recorded by singer Anne Van Den Hoogen in Amsterdam and the EP was mastered by John Webber at the legendary Air Studios in London.

“When I made some people listen to a preview of the track they were surprised, they told me it was beautiful yet different from everything I did before. But on one level, I must never lose touch with my audience. But I must, at some point, stop trying to get everybody to like me, and be true to my musical soul, to what I feel and I have to say. It’s a challenging moment to live as an artist and composer because these days everyone is writing music on his laptop. Music making has become accessible to almost everyone, that’s why it’s important to find what defines you, and chase it”.

The official video is directed by Isaac Madge, a writer, director & filmmaker based in West Sussex & London, passionate about low budget filmmaking and telling stories that really make an impact.

The video is starring Lucy Elizabeth Anderson and Joe James.

“The video is inspired by the true story of a friend of mine” says Francesco “she’s suffering a form of dissociative disorder. When I told Isaac this story he jumped on board straight on, and he did an amazing job portraying that reality. Also the actors are young but terrific and spontaneous, I’m really satisfied by the overall work”.

We've been waiting patiently to present Sam Davies' debut Silk Music release for some time now, as a pair of tracks by the Toronto-based talent was previewed on our "Silk Royal Showcase 05" compilation, back in September 2015. These two uplifting cuts, "Sunbound" and "Unwind", are now joined by "Cosmos", an equally memorable offering. From uplifting progressive to after-hours chillout, Sam's extraordinary 3-track EP offers a flavor for all tastes.

The release kicks off with "Sunbound", a peak-hour melodic progressive gem, in the "classical" tradition of the genre. Specifically, an uplifting chord sequence is joined by radiant pads and an inspiring vocal motif. The track continues to crescendo toward the breakdown, where we are treated to a stripped down piano and vocal solo. After a short progressive breaks interlude, the climactic drop leaves the listener in a state of rapture.

The subsequent cut, "Cosmos", features a deep and dark bassline groove, as well as a variety of deep, evocative, and occasionally otherworldly melodic themes. Ethereal pads and an exceeding beautiful, world music-inspired vocal highlight the unforgettable breakdown.

Finally, "Unwind", which served as Tom Fall's intro to his "Silk Royal Showcase 05" mix, returns the listener to the Balearic vibes that are established in "Sunbound". However, rather than closing out the EP with a 4/4 dance track, Sam treats us to a mellifluous, sun-kissed chillstep masterpiece. Heavenly pads and gorgeous piano themes play prominently in this relaxing and life-affirming tune.

Latvian producer and sound engineer, Puremusic, enlightens us listeners once again with his latest work, "Serenades Of The Night" -- his fourth album to be released with Silk Music. Ambitious and inspiring, the album explores the significance of love, romance, twilight contemplation, and the wonder of nature to create a sweeping, evocative body of work that grows deeper with each listen.

As the first track of Puremusic's latest album, "Serenades Of The Night," "Twilight" steeps us into a world of wondrous tones and textures. "No Fairy Tales" builds from a few simple elements such as finger-style bass, reverberating drums and echoing arpeggiators to become a fully enveloping atmosphere the carries us away. Delicate textures, resonating piano and evocative melodies sweep in and out of "Closer," each element arriving as a gentle wave that takes us deeper and deeper into Puremusic's wonderful soundscape. "Born To Love" couples the nostalgia of an acoustic guitar with the wonder of coastal sounds to place us on the shoreline of bliss. In "Tatchi," Puremusic's masterful control of sound transforms the old-world tones of a Japanese koto into something wholly new, adding a touch of fantasy to an already ambitious atmosphere. "Kama" sits as an inspiring prologue that transitions into the album's seventh track, "Reach It." Layers of percussive elements open "Reach It" and establish a foundation upon which Puremusic creates an exotic, otherworldly tune that transports us to a different time. Celestial tones appear and withdraw upon a canvas of sound in "Warmth," a meditative interlude that sets the tone for the more contemplative tracks that close out Puremusic's latest album, "Serenades Of The Night." True to its title, Puremusic's distinctive sound engineering makes "Creation" a perfect sonic companion for watching the dawn of the universe, or for simply relaxing on a summer's eve with someone special. "Pour l'Amour" features a reverberating solo piano whose chords inspire quiet reminiscence. "Dawn" closes out Puremusic's latest album, "Serenades Of The Night," on a bright, elated note.

Recently coaxed out of a long production hiatus (the result: a standout remix of The Midnight's "Synthetic"), friend and long-standing label muse Alex "Mango" Golovanov continues to reinforce his legacy in the niche of melodic progressive house, courtesy of a brand new collaboration with Norwegian producer, singer, and songwriter Astroleaf. 

Mango & Astroleaf's triumphant new single, "We Tried," not unlike Astroleaf's recent "Open Your Heart" release on our label, features a heartfelt performance that reflects the singer's lament about a relationship beyond repair. Yet, the central lyrical motif — "they should all know we tried" — suggests that the singer has made peace and brought closure, a more optimistic sentiment that Mango's characteristically hopeful chords help to bring to the surface. As the song progresses, the emotional resonance of the composition steadily builds, culminating with a gorgeous new lead synth. The chemistry between Mango and Astroleaf is truly awe-inspiring and offers a portal back in time to the vintage melodic progressive house sound of the late aughts.

Who better to offer a summer-flavored, uptempo interpretation of a melodically rich progressive cut than Talamanca, the Dutch maestro behind so many (beloved) Balearic progressive anthems over the past five years? Following last year's globally acclaimed "Arrivals & Departures" debut artist album, Talamanca remains in peak form here, as he offers his fans another euphoric, summer-kissed classic. The trance-influenced chord progression, which proves rapturous from start to finish, has the effect of "buoying" the vocals from sinking into melancholia. In the song's thrilling climax, the listener is inundated with waves of melodic bliss. 

It's rare to encounter a singer-songwriter who is equally adept at production, but Astroleaf proves himself a versatile, exceedingly skilled composer via a ‘chillout' take of his own. A gentle drum roll carries the rhythm, while delicate background synths offer a a soothing soundscape, upon which his vocal and memorable lyrics take center stage. A patient crescendo ultimately reveals an emotionally incisive final act, in which the the synths come to the for of the arrangement, accompanied by Astroleaf's gorgeous backing vocals.
