I personally enjoy how the clarinet play tries to follow the trumpet player - doesn't work out so well.

Is it a real Gregorian Chant? Nope. For one - there are no real words in it. Honestly, I don't want a religious exaltation mucking up my fantasy world. So if you're building a historically accurate "Monk Simulator: Year of Our Lord 882!", just move on. The other reason this isn't real is I never learned how to read that notation. There are insufficient sticks for the rhythms in the notation... I know, there is a real convention that you can learn. I just grabbed a few pieces of the sheet music from the 1200s, and guessed at how to do it. Sounds reasonable enough to me! (says the guy who knows virtually nothing about the art)

When I do music based on folk traditions, I tend to name them after cities. Like this one: Shenyang. It is a little village of 8 million people that I've somehow never heard of. Oh sure, I've heard the name, but I don't associate it with anything specific. Chicago: Hot Dogs. Amsterdam: Offensively tall Dutch. Moscow: "Stop a Douchebag". Shenyang: No clue. How did I miss this city??
You already know if you need this piece, it has a more satisfying low-end than actual real Chinese music, and it should fit in with your modern productions well.

If they do reboot "Miami Vice," I want to capture the crappy synthetic feel of the era, but with more natural sound. There are drum machines in here that were placed on a stage, put through amps, recorded on microphones, then digitally processed to sound more like drum machines. You’re welcome.

New Way: Assemble recordings of an ocarina player, and then make a virtual instrument that captures beautiful expression and legato lines... turn off all that fancy stuff and play it like a crappy synth.
