Here are my first attempts at recording the Stagg EDB (Electric Double Bass) 3/4 I received last week.

As I read on many forums that the original strings were awful, I decided to buy some popular strings from Thomastik and recorded 3 soundclips:
  * One with the original strings
  * One with the new set of strings
  * One with the new set of strings and an amp simulator

My conclusion:
  * the original strings are not that awful... but with the new strings the sound is more consistent and I feel like it better emulates the acoustic double bass sound.
  * these electric double basses are built to be plugged in an amp. Adding an amp simulator when recording it sounds like a good idea.
