A New Home

Cold Wet Nose

This song was inspired by the image on the cover of the pictured magazine.  Her name is Patti Pickens of The Pickens Sisters singing trio during the 1930's.  A friend of mine picked the magazine up at a yard sale and gave it to me as it was a music magazine.

Face On A Magazine

I wrote this song about an ariel trapeze artist form the early 20th century named Jennie May Ward.  Her and her brother Eddie, The Flying Wards, pushed the limits of ariel performance and set the bar for trapeze acts today.  While traveling to Chicago their circus train stopped in the middle of the night to cool down a wheel.  Sometime during the night, another train barreling down the tracks, the conductor asleep at the wheel, slammed into their train killing 86 circus performers and personel including Jennie.  Her brother Eddie survived.  The story in the song is told from Eddie's point of view.  The picture is of Jennie and her brother Eddie, I believe.

This song is based on an essay written by Arthur Conan Doyle in a collection of essays about the paranormal called "Edge of the Unknown".  The story details an actual seance in which Doyle was present where they connected with the ghost of Vladimir Lenin who had died about four months prior.  A message they received from the ghost was "artists must rouse selfish nations".
