I'm excited to finally release my set from DH last year for ya'll.   This was easily one of my fave sets that I've ever played.  Sometimes the stars align and blissful magic comes right behind it, this was definitely one of those times.   The DH crew gave me the honor of following my brother Mikey Lion with my set time so I got stuck in immediately because I knew he was gonna slay.  What a show! We are all Desert Hearts! <3 ;)

Kevin Knapp is a force to be reckoned with, a musical heavyweight known for his jackin’ house style and lifelong penchant for standout vocals.

With releases on Cuttin Headz, Repopulate Mars, Crosstown Rebels, Desert Hearts Records, Hot Creations, Dirtybird, and now his own Plump Recordings, the Texas-bred, Berlin-based DJ taps into a range of early musical influences, from indie rock and golden-era hip hop to tech and minimal house, to create his gritty signature sound.

He turned heads in 2012, proclaiming ‘My Beat Will Control You’ with Audiojack, and his 2013 cut with Hot Creations A&R, Richy Ahmed ‘ TheDrums’ is still owning dance floors. In 2019, ‘Call Me’ with Hannah Wants garnered huge support from the likes of Jamie Jones and a remix from Carl Cox, and his follow-up EP ‘Heads Up’ (Etiquette) reached number one on the Beatport Tech House Hype Chart.

In 2020, Knapp launched his label Plump Recordings with fiance and Detroit native, Jessica “Hutch” Hutcheson as a way to uplift all bodies, people of all genders, all sexual orientations, all races, and all nationalities. The label combines the flavors of Chicago, Detroit, Berlin, and NYC, and the duo have curated quite an eclectic sound for the project. After several solo releases and a release with Hutch in 2020 on Plump, Knapp had multiple successful releases in 2021.

“It’s somewhere between Chicago House, Bass House, slowed down, more heavily produced Ghetto Tech, and shuffley Tech House”, says Kevin. “It’s gritty with a dose of cheekiness…uplifting while militant, raw and empowering, a place of refuge for everyone who has ever felt unseen or excluded, no matter gender, color, or creed.”

After several releases with Hutch on his own label in 2020, Knapp had multiple successful releases in 2021. He returned to collaborate with Audiojack for ‘Under Your Skin’ (Crosstown Rebels), and released ‘Backstroke’ feat. Baby Luck / Miss Me (Repopulate Mars) and his EP ‘Footprints’ with Toman Remix (Cuttin Headz).

He’s played some of the world’s most renowned festivals and dance floors including Sonar, Miami Music Week, Desert Hearts Festival, Dirtybird Campout, Paradise at DC-10, Get Lost, CRSSD, Fabric, Kater Blau, Elrow, and Sankeys. Whether it’s an intimate underground club or a huge festival stage, Knapp loves connecting with people and constantly pushes to break the boundaries between DJ and spectator.

“I love rocking dance floors,” says Knapp. “It’s the only moment in life where I don’t feel some level of constraint and I love it for that.”

Honored to have my work included in the remix package for Pan-Pot's second album effort "The Other." 

I did vocals for the original of this track on when the album came out and now offer a remix of the same track (As I'm doing increasingly these days).  The list of remixers is remarkable and really it's beyond all comprehension to me that I'm present among them. There are few DJs who have as much passion and dedication to this industry as Kevin Knapp. He’s a constant pioneer of the sounds crowds yearn for through his own individual production style and his proclivity for vocal contributions. His stand out vocals turned our heads back in 2012 proclaiming “My Beat Will Control You" with Audiojack and his first Hot Creations cut ”The Drums” alongside A&R head Richy Ahmed in 2013 is still owning dance floors to this day. As of recent, his track “Drug Birds” out of Sola was heavily supported by UK mainstays Hannah Wants and Huxley. 2018 was a big year as Kevin’s collab “Your Mind” with Shiba San was released with Repopulate Mars and swept across dancefloors. Kevin has taken every opportunity to continue his craft leading him from San Francisco to the capital of Techno: Berlin. 

This is not seen as a day job to Kevin, but rather, it’s a way of life. It’s an attempt to communicate with audiences worldwide through his sounds and passion for human connection and it’s working. Whether that be as small as a vocal loop, or as substantial as a full fledged EP on some of the biggest house music labels in world, Knapp will turn his hand to anything in order to continue this journey he’s living day in day out, going BIG in more ways than one. 

As a world touring DJ, Kevin has preformed at many seminary festivals and stages including Dirtybird Campout, Lucidity Festival, Paradise, Get Lost, Cityfox, Sonar, Fabric, Kater Blau, Elrow, and Sankeys, making it clear that Kevin’s sound is an infectious front runner in the house music industry. Just ask his frequent supporters Jamie Jones, Pete Tong, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Claude Vonstroke, Patrick Topping, and Hannah Wants about Kevin’s seat at the house music table. Whether it’s a niche underground 200 capacity club, or a stage in Miami in front of several thousand, Knapp pushes to break the boundaries between DJ and spectator. 

With releases on Hot Creations, Crosstown Rebels, Hottrax, Sola, Dirtybird, Truesoul and more, Knapp continues to delve beyond the music and he is positioned to have 2019 be his most poignant year to date.
