Guest Mix by Michael Paessler - Air Date 2.20.16

Biography
At an early age, Michael Paessler was interested in electronic music. First, he used his older brother’s system secretly until he made his confession to his brother being fascinated by that kind of music. His brother showed him how to use equipment and even taught him some tricks. With the interest and passion for electronic music, Michael started crate digging and his first vinyl records he picked up were that of Paul van Dyk’s “For an Angel”, Niels van Gogh’s “Doppelgänger” and Moguai’s “King of Rock”. Trance, a very popular music style now and then, became his favorite. And the endless journey into electronic music continues. 

Michael started to listen to other music styles after approximately one and a half years. These were for example vocal and disco house. Many of Michael’s DJ sets were inspired by Novy’s great house music record “The Annual 1999”.

Michael then came back to trance music and enjoyed many sets and tracks of Paul van Dyk and many others. His social and musical commitment persuaded Michael to continue onto more musical projects. In the spring of 2005 Michael started to listen to progressive house.

At the beginning of 2005, Michael had finally bought his own DJ equipment. The genre, progressive house is still a part of Michael’s life today. He got his own radio transmission at RatXRadio in September 2005.

In 2009, progressive elements (the name of his show) moved to the host globalbeats.fm, where he presents his music to all fans of electronic music once a month.

Kalki Koechlin, Bollywood actor and slam poetess writes a heady and provocative piece titled 'Noise', that explores, celebrates, berates, rips apart and puts together that word, which forces a listen, and not a hear.

Welcome to the age of noise.  From the 'divine cacophony' of loudspeakers piercing the airwaves in the name of religion, to the soul-jarring discordance of peak hour traffic; from the unmusicality of news headlines warring for eye-balls, to the IQ numbing racket we subject our brains to on social media; noise surrounds us.  And in this most unmelodious symphony, 'we the people' are the players, the instruments and the audience, incessantly filling up our silences, with more noise.  Written in her classic crisp, rhythmic and onomatopoeic style, Kalki's powerful words are a silent plea for individuality to break its opinion shackles, and for a generation to discern between what is 'disturbance' and what is 'true voice'.  But most importantly, this poem makes us eerily aware of a very human discomfort we feel with deafening silences, which may be an alarming by-product of this era of distractions.

Kalki and Blush collaborate for the second time after 'The Printing Machine', to bring you another 'Unblushed' that is nothing less than an audio-visual experience.  And what better occasion than World Music Day to make an ode to the inherent melody of silence.
