This is a binaural mix of an octophonic piece : use your headphones !

This is "The Art of Almost" a piece for flute and octophonic electronics.
This one's very close to "Ce vide qui déborde" as they both testify of a year of moving forward, kind of blindly.

This was a commission of the Electronic Music Week of Shanghaï and was premiered there in October.
It won a composition prize at the CéCo concert here in Montreal.

The Art of Almost - Binaural octophony

Often Mokuhen's work consists of suites, where the compositions seem to come out of each other. He aggregates the sounds without any prediction, welcomes the accident, lets the peregrinations of his unconscious happen as in an automatic drawing. For this series, based on the work of exchange and interaction on the same "sound sheet", he wishes to share this open space by inviting an artist to take possession of the sounds of a raw recording. And vice versa.
There is no theme, no established rules... The only will is to cross two techniques, two personalities, two worlds that meet and intersect. And listen, discover. We are here more in collage, juxtaposition, collision than in "conversation". From this creative ping-pong, unexpected images in the form of a sound cut-up emerge. For this series, each title indicates who started which one or the other, in order to offer listeners a clue about this great treasure hunt.

Born in 1989, and lives in Montreal.  Kevin Gironnay creates acousmatic and mixed music, produces music for sound installations, videos and dance, and performs improvised music, in solo or collaborations.

His work is focused on taming chaotic elements into musical contents by using conceptual or concrete processes, hence his love for improvisation. He is also dedicated to shaping musical ideas in the micro and macro domains, hence his love for composition.

As sound engineer and radio art enthusiast and practitioner, his relationship with sound as a medium is a happy marriage, still filled with passion and everyday amazement. And he still tries to believe the feeling is mutual. Sound is his first and main material and musicality his artistic purpose.

Kevin Gironnay completed a master’s degree in composition with Nicolas Bernier, and has also been influenced by the teaching of Christine Groult, Horacio Vaggione, Denis Dufour, Jacopo Baboni Schilingi, Lorenzo Bianchi and Giacomo Platini. His music has been played in Canada, China, United States and throughout Europe.

In 2016, Kevin Gironnay founded the improvised music band Ensemble ILÉA.  He is also an active member of the collective Unmapped and the band QUADr.  He is an affiliate member of CIRMMT (Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media and Technology).
