My Memory - Violin Music <3

"The Prayer" or "Lūgsna" is the song for peace, love and compassion. 

I intended the song as a call for overcoming what divides, be it nationality, race, language or gender. 

The lyrics originate mainly in Latgalian and Latvian pre-Christian folklore; the former is especially close to my heart with its generosity of compassion, love and non-judgmentalism. I blurred the lines between the languages in another attempt to break down borders. 

The song is narrated by a wise-woman (healer or enchantress).  She prays to god to stop wars and save souls.  The orphans are reached out to by the gods. There might be hope.  Being able to give is a privilege freeing us from having to beg.  

The music makes reference to Chopin’s nocturne Op 27 Nr 2.

Prayer (Lūgsna)

This is my recent piano improvisation on my favorite Russian pieces (including some Soviet films). I used to play this medley with my friend four-handedly when at music college.  The music contains that beautiful Slavic sorrow and yearning endlessly changing and contrasting with the extreme joy and vitality. Hope you enjoy my take on it.
