The Shirahama Ondo, celebrated as one of Chiba Prefecture's three major folk songs, was once hugely popular nationwide as a new folk song played at Bon dance venues.
Shirahama Ondo originated in this very place.
Around 1954, driven by the passion of local stakeholders who desired a unique folk song for Shirahama, the melody was completed, marking the birth of Shirahama Ondo.
It was produced and released in 1956, two years after its conception.
Born and raised by the sea, the fishermen and ama divers of Shirahama cherished this Ondo deeply, contributing significantly to its widespread popularity today.
