Here is my cover of "Bloody Tears" from Castlevania II using the program SunVox. I used a pair of Sine Waves with slightly different release times and amplitudes to create the organ sound.

This was my first cover on SunVox and I chose the battle theme from Final Fantasy III which was not originally released in North America. Although it has been released now in modified versions, I tried to stick with the 8bit sound best as possible.

Here is a new SunVox cover. I kept things basic and true to form best I could, using the classic two square wave channels, triangle channel, and noise channel. This piece has some odd formal asymmetry, so most of the patterns had to be extended. A few rhythmic spots needed the delay command.

Metroid (1986) Brinstar -- SunVox Cover

There are no audio samples from the original game imported into this cover. Every instrument was created within SunVox, notably the Vocal Filter which was set to the "ah" syllable. I hope you enjoy!

Chrono Trigger (1995) Battle Theme -- SunVox Cover

I made this on a whim for a friend, but it very clearly shows the different timbres of the square waves at 25% and 50% duty cycle that were options for the NES pulse channels.

Wizards & Warriors (1987) Low Health -- SunVox Cover

This was the most difficult SNES cover for me to date. I'm still not happy with the trumpet (brass) sound and some of the percussion samples, but I'm happy with the overall arrangement. Again, I made use of blacbeard's Drawbar Organ Metamodule and created all the other samples myself.

Part of my attempt to cover the entire game. This particular track includes a dramatic pitch bend using the fineslide effect in SunVox.

Took a break from Mega Man 2 to put this one in SunVox. I used only the 50% DC Square Wave along with Triangle and Noise.

The Legend of Zelda (1986) Overworld Theme -- SunVox Cover

The metallic samples in this theme were extracted directly from the .nsf file in the original game and then sampled into SunVox using the DPCM channel.

Mega Man 2 (1988) Quick Man -- SunVox Cover

This is my first attempt at a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive cover with SunVox. I used cool colors for the FM channels and warm colors for the PSG channels. Hoping to spend more time with Frequency Modulation to get the sounds even better with the next cover. Nothing is sampled from the original sound font.

Mega Man 2 (1988) "Ending to Credits" -- DefleMask Cover

Here is a cover of "Hard Times"/"Ice Cap Zone 1" by Brad Buxer, illustrating the new piano display in DefleMask v. 12. DAC is enabled in FM channel 6 with drum and voice samples ripped directly from the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 game ROM. The .dmf file is available for download in the DefleMask forums.

Here is a tuneful ditty from Goonies II by Hidenori Maezawa, whose innovations in sound design pushed Konami ahead of the game audio curve by the end of the 8-bit era. I've been working on "Good Enough" and took a break to put this short track together.

Hidenori Maezawa's arrangement is one of the earliest tracks to feature the Konami single-channel echo, a sustained tone that re-emerges slightly on the beat after the initial release. You'll hear it at the beginning of the chorus.

The Goonies II (1987) "Good Enough" -- DefleMask Cover

After doing many Mega Man 2 covers, finally did one from Mega Man 3! Yasuaki "Bun Bun" Fujita's use of detuning is prolific in this game and featured at the end of each phrase in the second part of the track. The .dmf file will be posted in DefleMask forum under cover thread.

The music in Earnest Evans is a great representation of the Wolf Team sound driver. The same instrument set is found in just about all of the games Wolf Team developed for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. The PSG is not used in the music tracks. Composed by Motoi Sakuraba.

Unlike the Sega/Mega CD version (Sol-Feace), the Genesis/Mega Drive version includes Wolf Team's iconic PCM claps and distorted guitar patch used in other games for the console like El Viento and Earnest Evans. Composed by Motoi Sakuraba.

I wanted to hear what the track sounded like with VRC7 instruments, instead of the standard OPLL ones, so I used PortaFM to play it back with the VRC7 instrument patches and added 2A03 drums from Lagrange Point.
