Two-two-Ted Lassos in two weeks! Coincidentally, we had two of our cowboys play as Ted Lasso at the Halloween Haunted Hoedown. This is a breaks set from kev/null (@kevnull) on the Silent Disco Purple stage. Here's what he had to say about the mix:

"I love Halloween sets because you can really get into a full performance that integrates the music, the costume, and the crowd. For this set, I created a handful of custom edits that incorporated Ted Lasso quotes and tracks that went with the themes of the show. And a little interlude for Squid Game fans to boot. kev/null Live at Haunted Hoedown 2021

This week, we have another tag team from It's a New Day + Breakfast of Champions. Our very own kev/null (@kevnull) with special guest davesimon (@djdavesimon)! 

Here's what they had to say about the set:

Kevin: What an epic event. Dave and I started DJing coincidentally the same year and for the past decade have played at many of the same events, supported each other, and shared opportunities. To have our first tag team be at this special event, especially after such a long hiatus, was truly a peak experience.

Dave: Meeting up to prepare and practice was hampered by all the things - 210 miles between us (Oakland/Reno), the holidays, an oddly limited number of flight options, and an insane blizzard that shut down the interstates.  Thankfully two years of streaming experience inspired us to practice through a combination of high fidelity Zoom and Facetime calls, Dropbox and Soundcloud.  Our mixers interfaced to Zoom, with bidirectional audio mixer monitoring + screen sharing made it possible to preview mixes, talk through sequences, flows, and visualize hot-cues.  Using a common method for marking up tracks, we were able to make it happen remotely.  Our first in-person practice session was the night before BOC, on New Years Eve, with a thrown-together DJ setup on a friends' kitchen table.

I had the incredible honor of playing on the main stage of FnF this year at 10:45pm. The theme of this year's campout was, "Balls" so the set features a couple of original tracks I made to go along with the theme. It's summer and that means just a few months away from That Thing in the Desert (Burning Man). Around here, it's also the season of fundraisers and great parties. Decadent Oasis, always one of my favourite places to visit and play on the Playa, hosted their annual fundraiser this past weekend and I had the pleasure of playing 1:30am-2:45am which was enough time for a journey from some bootie breaks to some hard electro breaks and ending with some funky house.

Decadent Oasis Burning Man Fundraiser - Desert Shadows @ Light House

2018 is my 9th consecutive outing to Burning Man. Consistently one of my favourite places to be and to play are under the LED palm trees of Decadent Oasis. This year, they had the splendid location of Esplanade and 3:30. I played two very different sets there. This was at their annual "Welcome Home" party on Monday night—a not-so-gentle hug for everyone starting off the week. I had a full 90 minutes to take everyone on a prime time journey through some hard electro breaks and driving psytrance. Enjoy!

I had the pleasure of playing at the Decadent Oasis fundraiser at the Bayview Boat Club on a beautiful San Francisco October eve. The sun was setting as we danced by the water facing the bay but even more spectacular was the full moon that rose during the set. A beautiful day and a beautiful group of talent and dancers.

This set is a journey, starting high energy, taking a little deep break as the moon rose, and landing on some familiar but punchy tracks. Oh also, there’s a small surprise in there from kev/troll. ;) Enjoy!

The fifth annual Second Halloween (known to some poor saps as Valentine's Day), the newly invented holiday from the legendary Brass Tax crew is a real delight. Why only have one time a year to dress up. And why celebrate a hallmark holiday when instead you can dress up and be merry with friends?

This set is an off-the-cuff live recording from the event which inadvertently had a very "shake" theme. I did ask everyone to bring booties to shake so it was appropriate. Thanks to Brass Tax for inviting me to play!

2020 has been quite the year, culminating (at least for now) with the 2020 US elections. For my set for Unison 5 (@unison_stream), I decided to try and add a layer to the music by creating a poem through the track titles of what's played, in the order they're played. In addition, all the tracks were released before 2016—a happier and more sane time. 

Aside from the poem, the music is a high energy electro breaks set but within it still has an energetic journey that was cathartic and for me, emotional. I hope you enjoy it.
