全盛時代 (Zensei Jidai): A collection of the earliest tunes from Khan Kurra's archives. They chronicle the formation of his unique and mysterious sound. Rooted in deep bass and clattering percussion, these songs represent an intersection between primitive musical conceptions and modern tools and technology, evoking a past that never was.

This experiment was inspired by Lithuanian polyphonic folk song SUTARTINĖ "Mėtaujėla mėtaujo". I only used my live instruments: violin, ancient drum, bells and traditional Lithuanian instrument KANKLĖS. Recorded them and made this - some strange combination of folk and dub.
All sounds you hear are coming from real instruments I play.

Special thanks to Nerijus Laukaitis, who helped me with combining them all together.

Native European and Irish Tradition posits the existence of an Otherworld realm lying beyond the furthest reaches of the horizon; an  island of plenty and abundance, where happiness lasts forever, and where one hundred years pass as one day. The Greek Elysium, King Arthur's Avalon, the Odainsakr of the Norse and the Irish Land of the Living all point to a long-held corpus of beliefs regarding a paradise across the ocean.

For the 16th instalment of Blúiríní Béaloidis, hosts Jonny Dillon and Claire Doohan set forth upon the waves to Teach Duinn (The House of Donn), to which the souls of Ireland's heathen dead were said to travel with the setting of the sun. Continuing their voyage, Claire and Jonny venture onwards over the seas 'flowery plains' visiting 'thrice fifty islands' with the great Connle, Mael Dúin, Bran and St. Brendan as their companions.

Our ships are coursing over the sea; strange panoramas and otherworld islands await:

'There is a distant isle,
Around which sea-horses glisten:
A fair course against the white-swelling surge,
-Four feet uphold it.

A beauty of a wondrous land,
Whose aspects are lovely,

Two Moscow producers collaborate on an experimental EP inspired by drumming, and — surprise — there are no beats here. Zurkas, a master of anxiety-inducing, quasi-political nightmare ambiance makes his perhaps most club-influenced track and his first remix here, and Moa Pillar (who often crafts smart dancefloor-ready weapons) is at his most abstract. “Drumming” is a beautiful example of friendship, collaboration, and most importantly, communicating ideas across.

The project started from Zurkas’ obsession with the moment when live drummers go wonky while still keeping the groove — and that could be one of the main differences between electronic and live music, really. This original track, aptly titled “To Grab a Stick”, sparked Moa Pillar’s interest who just like his comrade had started out playing in rock bands (yes, his instrument of choice was drums). But unlike the slightly jungle-tinged Zurkas Tepla original, Moa Pillar’s original “Drumming” is an exercise in his own brand of deconstructed club music: staccato hits and hiccups that modulate into oblivion.

And then we have the ping-pong remixes: Zurkas edits Moa’s slick production is his trademark sound vérité approach spiced up with existential horror, while Moa Pillar does the opposite. 

Clocking at around 10 minutes, this EP boasts a lot of good ideas and brilliant musical coin-flipping.

This is a re-release of last year's August Fair Folk Almanac for Patreon about the Irish festival of Lughnasadh, its mysterious history, and its afterlife in modern Irish folklore.
This is the feast of the harvest's beginning, of the shining sun, of first precious golden loaf.
In Irish, Lughnasa is a gathering for the god Lugh, who was responsible for teaching the people of Ireland how to harvest the grain, and for maintaining the four quarters of the year, with the harvest at their peak.
