Empires of Dirt is the new EP from CASKO the techno alias of Chafik Chennouf, Moroccan born, Amsterdam based producer, DJ and head of Leyla Records. 

Each of the four muscular tracks are tensely constructed around field recordings and vocal samples recorded in the shelter where Chennouf works with undocumented people with psychiatric conditions. 
Chafik approached this as a community art project to give a platform to the unheard and unseen. 
He explains this EP is an attempt to highlight and address the traumas of the refugee crisis, precipitated by the actions and inactions of western governments that cause people from North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East to suffer the loss of their homes and cites and to be forced to flee, to become undocumented in the west and to suffer once again, already in the new land but still traversing the old borders.

Tolga Baklacioglu is a Turkish dj and electronic composer/performer working with modular synthesisers, guitar, and samplers, the owner of the highly respected vinyl imprint VENT, he is also an associate professor in aerospace engineering. 

“Blood Breeds Blood” is his eighth studio album and his debut on Khemia Records. 

Featuring Darja Kazimira, the Latvian vocalist, improviser, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Blood Breeds Blood is an immersive experience into the dark corners of introspection, an attempt to reconstruct the suppressed impulses and ramifications of painful emotions and traumatic events and provoke these links to a turbulent reservoir of destabilising anxiety. 
“Working with Darja relieves profoundly violent emotions as her ritualistic approach constructs a sacred and hierophonic space. 
This includes the pervasive tendency toward the denial of human identity by acceding to the expectations of a dehumanizing milieu, by accepting the animal-like or machine-like identity our fictional world would impose on us”, Tolga confides. 

Soft murmurings of a female voice outdoors in nature, like a scene from a Borowczyk movie coalesce against a hard pounding kick, mischievous snares, lazy guitar licks, and bitcrushed, distorted vocals in Beyond The Unholy Grave, where Tolga salutes one of his early heroes, Death’s legendary Chuck Schuldiner.

On the technical side, except the tracks “Altar Of Sacrifice” and “Blood Breeds Blood”, the whole album is recorded, arranged, and mixed live as one take directly from an Elektron Octratrack MKI.

Prophän is the solo electronic music project of Othman Cherradi, based in Casablanca, Morocco. Cherradi runs the experimental techno label Rhadâb and is the co-founder, alongside Nova Ouacheb, of Mindless a series of live events, podcasts and radio broadcasts.

Prophän acknowledges a wide spectrum of musical inspirations, ranging from industrial and post-punk to the undeniable influence of local trance-inducing musical practices and customs that surround him in North Africa.

In Cherradi’s own words “This album is a culmination of all those influences and was formed at the beginning of the pandemic, a time of great confusion where I felt creating something new and authentic was the only way to get past the feelings of emptiness and impending doom. It is an attempt to bridge between islamo-sufism and industrial music . It was made with religious fear as a main motivation, the world is crumbling apart, the judgement day is nearing, repent before it's too late”.
