Oceans is my first LP, and strays ever so slightly away from the club-oriented tracks I’ve released so far. This time, I wanted to lean in more on some of my non-dance music influences, such as shoegaze, post rock and ambient, and channel them into deeply emotional and atmospheric breakbeat tracks.

Although it has no lyrics, Oceans has a story to tell, a deeply personal one. It is the backdrop to a journey of self discovery, a tale of navigating across the vastness of a troubled tapestry of emotions, a coming of age.

Oceans is about finding beauty among the darkness within, embracing the melancholy, and staring into the light after rising from the ashes.

Originally dropping in late 2023 with a packed launch party at South London’s Planet Wax, ‘Certy’ blends Lutsu’s drill- and grime-inflected production with Razor’s unforgettable bars.

The second remix comes from Groove Chronicles (Noodles) with the help of Dubchild. Responsible for more than his share of garage classics over a 25-year-plus career, Groove Chronicles’ bumping production is the perfect match for Razor’s skippy flow.

Next up on Drumskull’s eponymous label comes Brink and Lutsu with two breaks laden, future facing bass tracks: Champion Sound and A&E. Brink and Lutsu had this to say regarding the release:
“Champion Sound and A&E are like two sides of the same coin - one taking a busier aesthetic that feels like it’s constantly shifting and the other adopting a more minimal approach. Myself (Alex Hatcher AKA Lutsu) and Seb (AKA Brink) have been collaborating on music for over 15 years, originally cutting our teeth by mixing jungle / drum and bass on vinyl together after school.
It feels very fitting that our first ‘proper’ label release together pays homage to the sounds of jungle and dark drum and bass, albeit interpreted through our contemporary style at slower tempos with an emphasis on sound design”.

Backed with two remixes, the first comes from left-of-centre bass operative An Avrin who brings his trademark drum programming and idiosyncratic twists into a warehouse rave ready track with one foot set deep in bleep history and the other in a warped out future.

The second remix comes from Drumskull, this time turning the original into a racing half-time 160bpm tension builder, ready to set light to any dancefloor that’s ready to enter some heavyweight upper tempo territory.

A small edition of beautifully printed A3 risograph prints featuring the stunning release artwork by artist Nuj Aside will be available to purchase via BandCamp from the release date.

Brink & Lutsu - Champion Sound (DSSR092) Previews - Released Friday June 7th 2024

Based out of Seville, Spain, Clare Durant & Hartta are one of the freshest collaborations to emerge in the scene, launching London based record label Oddities’ debut release.

Their “Photoshoot” EP  encapsulates all things odd and wonderful, flowing effortlessly through cerebral 4x4, zany breakbeat and glitchy UK bass. This varied 3 tracker attacks sound systems universally and demonstrates the diversity of their production arsenal. 

Founder of the club night and label Bleach & Moan, Clare Durant began her DJing journey in 2023, supporting the likes of DJ MELL G, Nikki Nair, Nite Fleit and more.. As Dead Trax head honcho and member of the group Sabasonik, Hartta boasts releases on imprints such as Banoffee Pies Records, 3 Feet Deep and Outhouse Sounds amongst others.

Their debut collaborative EP is set to release on 7th June, 2024 via Oddities Bandcamp and across all major platforms.
