"Pesante" is a song written by Khryss Arañas last October 2018 for the celebration of the Peasant Month. The song expresses the current condition of Filipino farmers suffering under our semi-colonial and semi-feudal society. Since the day it was written, "Pesante" has been performed in various mass demonstrations, cultural activities, gatherings, and other activities that advocate for peasants' rights.

Filipino farmers are facing great a crisis due to their economic and political standing. Under the current administration, 242 farmers have been killed. In Bicol, KARAPATAN-Bicol has recorded 63 Bicolanos as victims of extrajudicial killings, 34 of which are farmers. The intensifying military presence in Bicol under Memorandum Order 32 contributes to the continuous killings perpetuated by the current regime. 

Our farmers are being killed not just by bullets but also of hunger. The passage of the Rice Liberalization Law by Cynthia Villar has paved the way for more farmer's landlessness due to farmers being forced to sell what little land they have to alleviate the effects of retarded economic system and anti-poor government policies. "𝙎𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙮" (2019) ⚙️

Recorded for the Bicol-wide transport strike last November 2019.

"Sakay" is a song about the sentiments of Filipino drivers facing a big threat to their livelihood to be caused by the government's "Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP)" that aims to 'upgrade' the existing public transportation system.

Filipino drivers and operators are not against modernization but the government pushes for a modernization that is anti-poor and is not inclusive for the Filipino transport workers.

We push for a modernization through rehabilitation, refining, and upgrading of the roadworthy traditional jeepneys.

This song was written for the national assembly of 𝘗𝘢𝘨𝘬𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘚𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘵 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘸𝘪𝘥𝘦 (𝘗𝘐𝘚𝘛𝘖𝘕) last 2019 held in Naga City.
