The Eternal Canyon, for wind orchestra (2024)

This piece was inspired by a recording I took of a forest in Leitrim. During the recording a Blackbird started singing and I was completely engrossed in the music that I was hearing. After a lot of transcribing I wanted to portray all the different layers of sound in the forest (wind, birds, distant vehicles, etc.), and recreate the experience I had. Performed by the String Quartet from the Ficino Ensemble - Larissa O'Grady (vln I), Danny McCann-Williams (vln II), David Kenny (vla), Ailbhe McDonagh (vc) - in TU Dublin, 8th July 2024.

Lon Dubh, for string quartet (2024)

Performed at the 2025 ICSS in TU Dublin. Michelle O'Rourke (voice), Lina Andonovska (bass flute), Sasha Savaloni (guitar), Ailbhe McDonagh (cello). Recorded by Ian Brabazon. 

Snakes, ladders and bats (2025)

This piece is based on three temporal layers. The singing bowl begins slowly and gradually increases in speed. The triangle begins quickly and gradually decreases in speed and density. The metal cutlery holder (struck with tuning fork) has no clear trajectory, instead moving spontaneously between various speeds. This served as the general guide for the performance, in which I improvised each part.
