Then It Was

"The Coil" is an accompanied algorithm composition. Where in the drums and a sequence of sampled parrot voicing are produced with a generating pure data patch. I accompany the track on bass guitar, wavestation and a sequential circuits pro-one.

A modular performance with Noise driving everything. Quantized SH whistle noise melody. Amp'd modulated noise feedback field. Noise sourced from many 5u modules employed. b4 is a live performance not a generated track.

Chrysalis

This skin, it cages me. I long to be free. To escape this puzzle of bone and flesh. Time and space. Birth to death. Death in chrysalis will be to live once again.

Chrysalis, an metaphorical personification in audio. To paint a picture with sound.

Chrysalis is an algorithm performance generating midi notes converted to voltages for the high frequency modular synth oscillator noise (representing the cocoon). The algorithm also generates the notes for the low-end piano tremors (the butterfly wrestling about inside). Generated notes play the Roland JX10 (the improvisational butterfly leaving the cocoon). There is a lot of live mixing here that directs the high frequency audio but otherwise a totally generated performance.

This 2004 recording is one of my first algorithm compositions.

SynthIT - live modular synth performance

An algorithmic generated jam session for Bass, Drum Kit & Keys. All notes generated in the Key of D. Makes for interesting improv if you accompany the track on your own instrument. This track is the first recording in my band algorithm development series. The Band Theory algorithm will produce this 3 piece band improv. indefinitely.

Band Theory

The algorithm generated music presented here is composed midi tracks for all instruments; drums, bass, & piano in the key of D. This track is the second algorithm performance developed and used in training our LSTM. We have been separating the instrument midi tracks and editing the them down to smaller versions for educating the predictive model. The directive here is to develop an algorithm capable of generating a midi score in a conventional music genre. 

This track is almost the same as it's predecessor "Band Theory". The most notable difference is the high-hat(HH). In the original track "band theory" the HH was almost hidden in the performance. By altering the conditional percentages of the [spigot] objects the HH jumps right into the performance as a prominent instrument in the mix.

Band Theory After

The algorithm generated music presented here is composed midi tracks for all instruments; drums, bass, sequence & keyboard chords in the key of F#. This patch expands the band theory structure to four midi tracks. Bass guitar is triggered off of the kick drum. This is part 3 in the algorithm development project. Island stands out as a very identifiable performance in the algorithm performances of the series.

The algorithm generated music presented here is composed midi tracks for instruments; drums, bass & keyboard chords in the key of F#. I accompany the generated track on a Korg Wavestation EX & layered SR module. The algorithm structure was expanded into sub patch configurations to accomidate the size. There were rapid changes that occurred to the percussion sub patches that moved the previous algorithm into to a smooth rhythm. This is part 4 in the algorithm development project.

Strands Together

The algorithm generated music presented here is composed midi tracks for all instruments; drums, bass, & piano in the key of G. After a number of weeks of tearing through paper designs, attempting to arrive at a simple pure data construction that attempts to calculate the next note over randomly choosing one, I arrived at this piano performance patch. What is presented here is a hybrid algorithm structure employing both an equation & some random elements that creates a harmonious outcome and performs in a very humanistic way. A more upbeat piano performance than the first generation piano heard in the KicKRaTT's "Day" video on YouTube & Odysee. These pure data piano structures can run indefinitely and I let do so in my home. After about 5 hours the performance is pretty incredible, an anomaly I haven't quite figured out. Puzzled if the calculation of the equation is moving into some sort of exponential due to the recursive 8 step sequencer at the core? Or possibly an effect of the [%] modulus object? The piano is the dominant instrument but switches off with the bass guitar taking lead.
