I think it would be fair to say that some people whose out put is quite regular suffer from quantity over quality. For Malik Kassim, the Amsterdam based producer also known as Retromigration, this just is not the case. With three records out already this year and plenty more on the horizon including a full LP on Wolf Recordings, it seems Kassim is determined to debunk the quantity over quality theory and prove you can very much be both. His records do the speaking for this argument, with his styles ranging similar to modern greats like Folamour and Kerri Chandler massively influencing off funky and up beat rhythms yet still maintaining that punchy four to the floor techy beat and its in these influences we move on the Phonica Mix 96; Retromigration takes us on a trip through many styles here across jazzy beats, funky rhythms, pumping house and melodic piano riffs, its very much a day in the Sun kinda party mix and he definitely helps us imagine that setting here.

Faro is a Brighton based artist who has played all across the UK and beyond since 2014. She holds down residencies at Patterns night club and leading underground radio station Balamii, as well as her local station 1BTN. Faro is known for being a selector, digging deep for the best soulful records to play on her radio shows and gigs. A true music lover.

She has shared line ups with huge headliners, a few being Honey Dijon, Folamour, Dan Shake, Dimitri From Paris, Jeremy Underground, Alexander Nut, Cody Currie, Moxie, Cinthie and last year supported Annie Mac on her Brighton tour date. 

Her vibrant energy and uplifting music has graced many dance floors and venues across the world, notably Suncebeat Festival (Croatia), Kala Festival (Albania), We Out Here Festival (UK), Pikes (Ibiza), Motion (Bristol), XOYO (London) and not to mention taking over from Jayda G and closing Detonate Festival (Nottingham).

Faro grew up on her Dad’s collection of R&B and Soul, which heavily influences her selections today ranging from House, Broken Beat, Disco, Jazz, Garage and beyond. 

As well as DJing, Faro has spent time over the years putting on events and is currently starting regular parties with LEV at the renowned BBE Store in East London. She also works with To The Rock Records, one of the most refreshing soulful labels on the scene right now.

In her early days, Faro produced a track that was played on BBC Introducing - since then she has prioritised DJing but is now spending time in the studio working on production and vocals, with an EP set to come out spring 2025 with fellow artist Pandar.

Welcome to my profile. I'm a producer and DJ since 2004. When I begun, my aim was to reintroduce the underground sound of 90's electronic music : first the roughness of US Hip-Hop, but quickly the soulfulness of Garage House, the energy of groovy Techno, DnB, Breakbeat...

Im glad these sounds came back and it allowed me to play, mostly underground House, at great venues and events in France, with crews like @Crackirecords, @Ordinaire_records, @lowkey-recordings, Dansons Paris, and more recently @Lazintrierecords with whom im working now...

Before being a DJ, Im above all a music maker, synth programmer, sample geek... I had the chance to release music on @Crackirecords, @Copie-blanche, @Ordinaire_records, @Rutilance-recordings. Check out my Space Opera EP on Rutilance and the split EP on Ordinaire released in 2020. In july 2023, I released a new Deep House EP called Antra on Joule Imprint (@Yoyaku).

This decade has seen the birth of excellent new musical directions, this makes me wanna look to the future and create new sounds, try to push boundaries of House music while keeping the 90's spirit. Enjoy the tracks and mixes made with love and passion.
