Royal (Live at CHRW)

Kid Royal is a high-energy pop rock band based in London Ontario. With a sound they describe as ‘Hedley meets The 1975’, you’ll findshades of U2 and even a bit of a psychedelic twang, delivered with a crunching two-guitar punch. Playing together as a band since 2013, this four piece has been captivating audiences in and around their native London, delivering a positive message with their decidedly upbeat brand of power pop. Recent highlights include capturing a coveted opening slot for Australian pop star Cody Simpson at London’s annual Western Fair, and winning a 98.1FM radio competition aimed at promoting local talent: Their original song, “Old Soul” was the winning entry by a landslide of audience votes, and has been enjoying regular airplay on the station ever since. Hearing their song on the radio was a pivotal moment for the band, a culmination of dreams, creative inspiration and a lot of hard work. In June of 2015, Kid Royal performed for the UJA Charity Fundraiser where they were selected for a mentoring session with Dan Kanter who co-produced Justin Bieber's album My Worlds Acoustic.

Singer and guitarist Cameron Russell, lead guitarists Kevin Valkenier and drummer Christian Roberts are all originally from London, and bass player Cormac Elmes relocated from his native England to Canada in 2008. Best of friends even outside the band, they feel very lucky that they have found like minded others to share the musical journey with. For Kid Royal, the live shows are the ultimate payoff: “We spend hours on hours, writing, rehearsing, driving to get to our shows, and it all pays off when you hit that stage for thirty to forty-five minutes. It’s pure electricity!”
