UK-born, Australia-based auditory futurist Hedchef creates the kind of sharp, off-kilter club constructions that disorientate and delight the dancefloor in equal measure - it's little surprise that you can regularly hear Hedchef cuts in the sets of some of the world's most esteemed DJs, from DJ Seinfeld and Solid Blake to Anastasia Kristensen and I Hate Models. Both in the studio and behind the decks, his blend of locked broken-beat grooves, space-age synths, and no-nonsense low-end thump creates an unpredictable approach to club sonics, drawing inspiration from across the dance music spectrum without a hint of nostalgia or pastiche.

Tilt Shift sits firmly left of center, a difficult-to-label square peg that unintentionally fails to fit a pigeonhole. Borrowing from the photography term, Tilt Shift refers to two different types of movement, a selective focus with a large depth of field used to control perception. This can be applied to our music policy, tilting the vertical axis resulting in a sharp area of focus without reducing the depth of field. The selective focus that can be achieved by both tilting and shifting movements, It's compelling because the effect is different from that which you may have become accustomed to. This movement is often used to avoid the convergence of parallel lines, or as we have come to think of it, it’s where the lines blur.

Mix Series Vol. 85 by Full Motion Disaster

For the next musical offering by London based producer Shawn Cartier, he delves into a different sound across 2 tracks, which mould his existing hard hitting electro centric tracks with a more modern and emotive framework, slowing down the pace and raising the energy.

The release opens with “Lemon” which is the more melodic of the 2 tracks. Rich arpeggiated synth lines rip through quirky mystical pads while all being grounded by a pumping rhythm section. This track also features Shawn’s keen use of sampling as seen by the progressive guitar section to close off the composition.

The last track “Revival Police” adds a ripe dancefloor functionality to the release. Huge warping bass tones and dancing aquatic melodies meet with a wailing 303 to complete this one. One for the middle of a set to get the arms in the air.

Boy Racer is the new Live Lo-Fi Trance project from DJ & Producer Sharpson, and the London based Breakbeat duo S.U.R.E., aka Lucas Friss and Tim Falkheden.

Drawing inspiration from iconic Trance compilations from the likes of Ministry of Sound and Gatecrashers to the 00’s era of Tiesto, Mauro Picotto and Gabriel & Dresden, Boy Racer aims to move Trance into the contemporary landscape. Coined by Sharpson as ‘Lo-Fi Trance’, Boy Racer aims to take the good away from the bad when it comes to Trance music.
