In a revisit to one of the monumental compositions that informed Andrew Bayer’s third studio album ‘In My Last Life’, we welcome two new mixes of ‘Immortal Lover’ to Anjunabeats.

A surging talent in the melodic house scene, Momiji Tsukada's (aka Qrion) profile has been steadily on the rise throughout the year, opening up proceedings at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 350 celebrations in Prague and making her presence felt on Anjunadeep with her first full-length EP on the label, entitled ‘Sine Wave Party’. Her mix intertwines the haunting vocals of Alison May with peaceful atmospheres and texturised melodies, blurring the realms of ambient, chillout and deep house. Aiming straight for the jugular with a pulsing techno rework is Ukraine’s 8Kays - best known as label head of 8Music, and for her consistent presence across some of the more heavyweight labels in the progressive house world.

Originally written between the remote woods of Northern Sweden, a studio in Stockholm Old Town, and a city apartment over the course of two years, boerd’s ‘Misplaced’ now gets a global reimagining from label debutant Bella Boo, Tokyo's Lycoriscoris, Brooklyn’s BAILE, and label duo Jody Wisternoff & James Grant.

Opening the eclectic EP is Bella Boo’s take on lead single ‘It Fades Away’. Imparting an off-kilter flavour typical of her Studio Barnhus roots, Bella Boo reconstructs the original via a loafing detuned bassline. Lycoriscoris chooses to double down on the original’s fragility, curating an introspective atmosphere in his remix. 

Jody Wisternoff & James Grant take ’Someone’ in a clubbier direction, introducing a four-to-the-floor arrangement with melodic undertones. Lastly, BAILE presents a groove laden remix of ‘Gem’, emphasising the original’s beautiful piano lines atop a 2-step beat.

Kidnap is an artist whose music overflows with emotion - rich and powerfully evocative.

Recording in London, Kidnap (real name Matthew Relton) likens his process to that of a sculptor, starting with a block of sound and chopping away until a shape emerges. As such, each song exists ornately carved with a handcrafted subtly.

Still just 33, Relton is already something of an industry veteran. Releasing his first single in 2012 kicked off an eight-year stretch of global touring that came to a grinding halt when the pandemic put the world on pause.

2024 marks a new chapter for Kidnap, with his next body of work on the horizon. Set against the backdrop of a changing world and the arrival of a baby daughter, Relton offers a bittersweet reflection on the passing of time. ‘It’s about looking back on the last 12 years — the touring and the friends and the sleeplessness,” says Relton, “and realising that in order to embrace the life I have now, I need to let it all go.’ The music shimmers with nostalgia. Signature sad melodies dance deftly around commanding synth lines, altogether sounding like an artist with a new found sense of purpose.
