KIDS AT RISK sneaked up on the national music scene in early 2010 with their debut self-titled EP (distributed nationally through MGM) which saw the band lauded as Australia’s answer to Welsh indie/punk/pop brood, Los Campesinos - but with a sound as universally relevant as they were identifiably Australian.  Due to demand, the band, toured Sydney and surrounds extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Deep Sea Arcade, Tom Ugly and NZ rock juggernauts, The Checks.  

Later in the year, the Sydney outfit collaborated with local music contemporaries, Djanimals (formerly known as Danimals), Convaire and Bon Chat, Bon Rat (to name a few) to digitally release a remix EP which included re-worked tracks of KIDS AT RISK's debut EP.  Both releases were so well received that the band were formally Unearthed by national youth radio network, Triple J.  They also went on to win the opportunity through Triple J for final year NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts) students to create a music video clip for their most popular track, 'Sugar'.  The clip was ABC’s Rage ‘Indie Clip of the Week’ and has received close to 6000 views on Youtube.

With national and community radio support under their collective belts, in addition to multiple handfuls of glowing reviews and enough live shows to prove their worth, the band went on to fulfill an unorthodox series of events.  in 2011 Larissa Rate, Lee Devaney and Septimus Caton, the true identities behind the Sydney-based trio (who play live with a fourth member - drummer, Reuben Alexander) were, based on their exceptional songwriting abilities, approached to assist with compiling the original music - both score and soundtrack to [then] forthcoming indie feature film, Griff The Invisible.  This would also, in essence, be their debut album - something that no other band in history has done.

Their usual rock aesthetic was shed, as the band tested their versatility by creating a unique and meticulously arranged soundscape for the twisted rom com about a superhero with a difference.  Featuring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) and Maeve Dermody (Beautiful Kate), Griff The Invisible is the brainchild of debut director, Leon Ford. Described by media as “Kick Ass meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” Griff The Invisible is fresh, original and as universally relevant as it is identifiably Australian.  A love story, a superhero motion picture and a quirky indie film with heart, Griff The Invisible was hand-picked to feature in Toronto Film Festival in late 2010 with three sold out screenings, was premiered at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival in February and finally the Australia premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in March.
