Bokoya is a four-piece jazz/hip-hop band from Cologne who plays improvised beat music. Like a four-headed human drum machine, Bokoya improvise, shape, and develop beats in the electric field of repetition and variation. It's impossible to put a tag on Bokoya's music. BADBADNOTGOOD, Dilla, Krautrock, Ambient and dub might work as rough reference points for the music but don't do it justice. After a sling of releases on Wadada Records, Bokoya are now signed to Melting Pot Music where they will release their new album „Hausensession“ in October. The double single “Migera / Rockwood Riddim” gives you a first taste of what to expect.

Isatta Sheriff and Koralle join forces on ‘Eat The Kiwi Skin’ - six tracks that unite the talents of the East London MC and the Bologna-based beat smith. Their first collabo ‘Laid Back’ gained 2,5 Mio. streams to date. Even though the music is made in Italy, ‘Eat The Kiwi Skin’ is a London sumting. ‘For Those Who Love – Beat Edit’ is the second of six beat edits. Koralle flipped the original instrumentals in a unique way for the beat lovers. 

Isatta’s track record includes collabos with Flying Lotus, Oddisee, Arrested Development and Athletic Progression. She is hosting a radio show, runs her own label Doctored Sound and works as a music writer. Koralle is one of the most in demand European beatmakers with a sound rooted in jazz and boom-bap. ‘Amsterdam Nights’ is the debut single by Ray Lozano, releasing on January 19th. Ray Lozano is a German-Filipino singer, songwriter and producer born and raised in Cologne. In her work she likes to dabble in playing piano and bass. ‘Amsterdam Nights’ is the first taster from her forthcoming album ‘Pairing Mode’, which is composed of 12 musical short stories Ray has been working on for quite a time. Largely written in 2020 and 2021 it expresses the newfound pace of life during the pandemic.

In each song (or chapter) Ray moves through a perspective on solitude. From longing for love to feeling contempt with yourself, disoriented, and then empowered again. Ray’s honest lyrics paired with her vulnerable, yet sophisticated and bold voice guide us through an emotional dreamy space found somewhere between heartbreak and hope. “’Pairing Mode’ is like a collection of polaroid pictures. Or like a menu, composed of several delicate dishes” she explains, emphasizing that it is to be enjoyed with all our senses. Every track is “a moment that has been captured and is complete as it is.”

Ray and her co-producer Samon Kawamura (Max Herre, Joy Denalane, Megaloh) create a landmark in German-Asian culture. Their sound is following in the footsteps of the art and soul of Solange's ‘When I Get Home’ plus some quirkiness à la Tierra Whack - but always undoubtedly Ray Lozano. Her music offers a sense of home - direct, soothing, and playful. ‘Pairing Mode’ is accompanied by a strikingly gorgeous poetic film, produced by visual artist Parissa Charghi.
