As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. 

The first time we featured DJ Nobu on the RA Podcast, over ten years ago, we called him "one of Japan's best DJs." In hindsight, i think we can all agree that the country qualifier is no longer necessary: he's one of the world's best DJs, bar none. An absolute master at curating and mixing techno, Nobu has helped to inspire a Japanese school of techno that is psychedelic, hypnotic and often very pretty, without losing the genre's oomph or edge. And he's more popular than ever around the world, playing some of the best parties and clubs in pretty much any country or city you could name.

But DJ Nobu's roots and heart are close to home. Frustrated with techno in the Japanese capitol, he created his own party in his neighbouring hometown, Chiba, where nightlife was less pretentious and the vibe was a little looser. Future Terror quickly became known as one of Japan's premiere techno parties, and paved the way not only for Nobu himself, but many other Japanese DJs who Nobu and his later partner Haruka gave the chance to shine. The party also recently celebrated its landmark 20th anniversary with its first-ever party in London.

This mix is a direct tribute and encapsulation of Future Terror, what Nobu calls a "condensed story" of the series focusing on the more outré elements at the fore—an "awareness of techno" with plenty of more leftfield tracks thrown in. What follows might be a little gentler than you'd expect from Nobu, but it's all top-tier techno mixed with an expert hand.

Chloe Lula is a resident DJ and releasing artist at Tresor. She's played at Berghain, Boiler Room, Radion, Movement weekend in Detroit, and countless clubs, festivals and parties across Asia, Europe, and, North and South America.

Chloe has released on Tresor Records, Blueprint Falling Ethics. In addition to her career as a DJ and producer, Chloe is a cellist—her debut instrumental full-length was released in November 2024—and Chloe is also the senior producer of Resident Advisor, where she hosts and curates talks and music workshops at festivals like Nuits Sonores, Dekmantel, Unsound, Wire, and many more.

DJ Sodeyama’s been around since the 90s, a Tokyo-based whizz and DJ’s DJ, whose career has offered the type of sound many selectors would envy. It’s incredibly sharp, meandering along its intelligent thread in unexpected and high-minded ways. Since the early noughties he could add producer to his soubriquet too, flexing his minimal muscle with early releases, a steady stream of ensuing ventures further cementing his craft via Korean-based deep techno distributor Artscope, Dynamic Reflection, illegal alien, Daybreak and many more. He’s also explored adjacent genres and ventured into the world of house under his parallel alias The People In Fog. Pretty full plate, but the quality of his sound has suffered nothing for it. His techno is an expert tapestry of interlaced details and lingering moods, injected with raw feeling and undeniable skill. It darts from peak to peak, fusing frequencies riddled with forward-pitched elements and vivid effects, and forges a long-range feeling that abuts the realm of both man and machine. Thick and volatile techno that serves as proof that the genre can keep expanding outwards in fresh and surprising ways. Bassiani Podcast 260 moves the needle further, it's quintessential Sodeyama: vivid climbs and steep descents, warped vocal samples, brave and unbending beats for prime-time raving.

30drop은 2015년 Detroit Underground 레이블에서 첫 정규앨범 ‘Tools For The Dimensional Step(2015)’를 발표한 이후, 제프 밀스(Jeff Mills)가 운영하는 전설적인 Axis Records에서 ‘Soroban(2020)’과 Photosynthetic Zone Manifesto(2021)’, 30D 레코즈를 통해 ‘The Time Of Cruel Miracles(2017)’, ‘Insight Into Mind And Space(2023)’를 발매하는 등, 현재까지 총 5장의 정규 앨범과 수많은 EP 앨범들을 발표했다.

Electronic music composer, Live performer and 30D label owner 30drop was born and raised in Barcelona where he first fell in love with post-punk, goth and electronic music during the city’s post-Olympia heyday. At the time, Spain was bursting at the seems with new artistic and cultural energy culturally in the wake of the ‘La Onda Layetana’ cultural movement in Barcelona in the late 70s and the ‘La Movida’ movement in Madrid in the 80s. 
30drop spent the mid-90s between legendary clubs Nitsa, KGB, Moog or Syndicate (in neighboring Terrassa) and various local skate parks, where tapes of the previous nights' sets by local heroes such as Sideral or Angel Molina were played and traded. Delving deeper into techno, experimental and industrial electronics in the 2000s, he adopted the 30drop moniker in reference to the drop-frame time code used for synching 1950s US black and white TV images to sound. He eventually began making music inspired by Russian, British and American retro- futuristic science fiction of the 40s and 50s, as well as classic Detroit and Birmingham techno. 
Since 2014 he has become a staple of the European electronic music scene, playing venues such as Berghain, Tresor, Moog Club, etc. The same year he also established his own 30D records imprint as a platform for both functional and more experimental strains of dance music. 
As a producer, 30drop combines elements of industrial, bleep techno and electro with polyrhythmic melodies and evocative soundscapes, creating create music that is both functional and listenable outside of the club context. He was released five full length albums, including Soroban (2020) and Photosynthetic Zone Manifesto (2021) on Jeff Mills’ legendary Axis Records, as well as Tools For The Dimensional Step (2015) on the Detroit Underground imprint, The Time Of Cruel Miracles (2017) and Insight Into Mind And Space (2023) on his own 30D Records, where he also collaborated with Gerald Donald (as Arpanet) for the split EP Phases (2018).

Monday Off is a vinyl-only psychedelic techno label founded by Mary Yuzovskaya. Known for its mind bending, boundary pushing releases, the label has recently featured the likes of ORBE, JUDAΣ, Mike Parker, CONCEPTUAL, Viels, D-Leria, Blazej Malinowski, Michal Wolski, Xhato, Milena Glowaka and of course Mary herself, plus many many more. A label that ignores fleeting trends and consistently delivers high quality timeless records. 

The mix was of course recorded in all vinyl one take session, where you can expect to hear the kind of heads down techno the label is synonymous for: deep, cerebral and mind-melting - a dedication to authentic, thought-provoking electronic music that transcends the ordinary. This July the label celebrates its 8th anniversary - turn this up extra loud to celebrate.

A slow drift into the shadows at Tresor, Berlin.
The fourth chapter in the VVVT_MIX series emerges from the hands of Velvet Vortex founder Alicja Aksamit, who gently opened the night on July 5th, 2025.

Her set, woven from ambient currents, distant dub echoes and deep, resonant techno - invited quiet introspection. A delicate unraveling, suspended between stillness and motion. A moment out of time.
