This is a setting of Dana Gioia’s poem of the same name. 

Originally composed for soprano, oboe, and piano. Commissioned by Jennifer Gookin Cavanaugh (oboist) and Kimberly Gratland James (mezzo-soprano).

This world premiere recording of the clarinet version — specially requested by HAVEN Trio (Lindsay Kesselman, soprano; Kimberly Cole Luevano, clarinet; Midori Koga, piano) — appears on the CD “Atonement”, and appears here by kind permission.

This tango for piano trio is the third of three instrumental dance interludes from “Drunken Moon”, a monodrama for soprano, bass-baritone, and ensemble which was written as a prologue to Arnold Schoenberg's masterpiece “Pierrot Lunaire”.
