As a DJ and artist, Berlin-based Hayden Payne, known predominantly by his Phase Fatale alias, has developed into one of the leading names taking EBM and post punk-informed industrial techno into raw and exciting territory the last five years. With his father involved in the music scene in the ’80s, his fascination with new wave and industrial bands stems way back, with him gravitating to more dance floor sounds as he was introduced to the Wierd parties on the Lower East Side of New York as a teen. This week sees him newly signed on by the Ostgut Booking agency, in a move that seemed all but confirmed with Payne’s now regular residencies at Berghain and the release of his debut outing on Ostgut with ‘Reverse Fall’ last year. Payne’s monolithic and immolating sound have always upheld well against the backdrop of Berghain, but he’s quick to stress that his work fits beyond just one side of the club, with his influences in synth wave, new beat, electro, and italo lending themselves to Laboratory and Snax too. 

We caught up with Payne to discuss his label BITE, telling us how him and his partner Florian had started the label with aims of operating beyond the borders of common preconceptions in techno. In the space of a year they’ve released debuts from Vulkaniski and REKA, a record from Teste, who celebrated their first record in 25 years, and a long-time-coming collaborative record between Payne and close friend Silent Servant. Falling by sheer coincidence on Truancy Volume 242, this serendipitous addition to our series has Payne digging through a lot of his current favourites, creating a sonic whirlpool of selections that pulls in electro, industrial, EBM and techno in a genre blurring manner. At an hour and forty minutes there's a substantial amount of music to get stuck into.

we host a mix by the Spanish, Berlin-based artist N01R aka María Silva. N01R is both dj and producer and she is also a very curious and creative mind, exploring other fields; such as photography, video and collage.

The N01R project was born in 2005, with the release of five tracks on the New York-based label Machinekunt. In 2010 she published her first track Noise Gen on Audiotrauma.

Since then, N01R has not stopped being productive and she is now counting numerous of releases on labels such as; Cold Beats Records, Unknown Pleasures, aufnahme + wiedergabe, and Nøvak, collaborating with the artists Huren, Katran, Delusions and Assassani. A new realease, with Unconscious on Kloster Records and a very special collaboration with Delusions, will also see the light on the coming months.

N01R is a project that combines the genres of  dark ambient, power noise and minimal-wave, with analogical roots influences. N01R has taken her music to museums in several cities, exhibiting experimental music installations and projections. She will combine lights and sounds, putting the visitor in a dark room, filled with sounds composed by her and allowing them to interpret what they are experiencing, in their own way. Her aim is to make us think about ourselves from a philosophical point of view, as well as make us aware of the importance sound in our lives.

Maria has an amazing talent to blend different genres and she mixes techno with EBM and sometimes electro. Her sets are well-known for keeping the dance floor vibrant and in constant movement. She is also the owner of the Pulsate Radio Berlin, for the Fnoob, where she hosts Berlin-based producers and djs, supporting the scene and creating new connections.

Also she is the co-founder of the Music label Impartial Waves, noise, ambient, Techno Industrial and EBM.
She is about to release her LP Rituals with remixes from artists such like Espectra Negra, Huren, Aehm, Delusions, Katran

Under her faux naïf alias, she digs for records outside of the electronic spectrum, often championing the lesser known sounds of tropical goth, post-punk and EBM (Electronic Body Music). Her broad tastes in these genres mostly stems from the 80s, taking as much influence from British groups like The Cure and Cocteau Twins as she does any electronic producer.

Edoardo Messina was born in Ischia, a beautiful island in the gulf of Naples. Since a young age he has had a big passion for music, studying guitar and piano in a well known local academy. 
At the age of 12 he discovered the world of DJ’ing and with the help of his father he bought his first dj console. 
During these years, he refined his musical tastes, enriching his path with many sonorities from Hip-Hop to Reggae and Funk before heading into Techno scene.
After years spent studying in 2016, he returns to the world of music production.
In 2017 he graduated in music production of “Ableton Live” and “Cubase”.
He also graduated in mixing and mastering at the “NuT Academy” of Naples.
In 2017 D.A.V.E. The Drummer decided to focus on his music by giving him the opportunity to release an EP on his label "Hydraulix". This EP completely changed his vision of the Techno music.
In October 2018 his name has grown a lot thanks to Dj Rush who played "Muscida", track released on Trau-Ma, at the Awakenings festival in Amsterdam.
2018 was an important year for him as he had the chance to play in cities like : London, Berlin, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Naples and many other cities.

In 2006 he started producing his deep, dark and powerful sound, mixing heavy basslines, bizarre voices and dark atmospheres with his own style, becoming well known as one of the most representative techno artists in South America.
