Working Title; a project in co-curation

In the postmodern world of today, the work of curators has become increasingly diverse. The job content has shifted from a simple model of guarding, keeping or acquiring a collection, to a compound model, adding the possibility of acquiring a semi celebrity status identity.

We are part of a generation that has spent their childhood growing up with an invisible third parent, the internet. We are able to discover music faster and easier than ever before. But even with all these options, an individual curator can never truly see the whole picture.

The idea for this project is simple and goes as follows;
Instead of curating artists ourselves, we will have others curate together. Our project can be seen as an exercise in joint curatorship. We have invited fourteen different collectives, labels and individuals who in their turn curated one artist.

Kilbourne revs up the engine for Milkshake, her sophomore PRSPCT release. The title track is a filter-tweaking rager, with bouncing kicks and madness-inducing percussion. Sunshine Terror weds terror and serenity, a fleeting calm in the eye of a hurricane, while Plague Raver pays tribute to an especially unhinged period of nightlife in New York. Ignoring the T-99 Anasthasia stab mania, each track on Milkshake adds new orchestral stabs to the canon, from Verdi’s Dies Irae to John Williams’ film scores. The EP is rounded out by legendary darkcore producer Catscan’s remix of Milkshake, a club-ready anthem that recalls the explosive sound of his early catalog.

Kilbourne debuts her label Hammerhead Records and its first release Panopticon, a two tracker by the New York hardcore icon. The title track kicks off with a sinister saw riff and chattering hihats before descending into nazgûl-screeching madness. Rolly Polly sees Kilbourne dropping the tempo, playing with more groovy and repetitive sounds to psychedelic effect. The Panopticon EP is Kilbourne’s vision of hardcore today, and an exciting taste of the music to come from Hammerhead.

NJ Terror is a loving tribute to the early speedcore and terror of the US and its cultural mashup of hardcore techno, metal, rave, hip-hop, the city, the shore, and the space between. Seesawing through reckless breaks and gentle pads, this EP is dedicated to the freaks of the rave.

Nekro006 is live! Pain Becomes Pleasure features 4 tracks of terror, hardcore, and techno from Kilbourne, Nekronomikon, and Plexøs. 

The title track features two US hardcore figures joining forces, as Kilbourne and Plexøs push the tempo up high while swirling synths build to an excruciating climax. Pachyderm continues the eerie tone with choral stabs, reproachful voices, and stuttering alarms. Side B begins with the pumping Fuck The Wave from French HC veteran and label-boss Nekronomikon that recalls both contemporary industrial techno and the golden age hardcore of yore. The record closes with the creaking techno of Dropping Plenty Ravers joyfully declaring "My whole family is addicted to speed, and I am so proud."
