A play on words. Kapi is the name of the raga used in this piece. A kapi-wallah is a coffee-seller -- and you’ll want a shot of caffeine before embarking on this journey of rhythmic intensity. Eleven years ago, Ed was commissioned to write a dance piece: he created the rhythmic composition, and asked Suba to write a melody for it. In that moment, Autorickshaw was born.

'Your Wilderness', their 11th studio album, showcases the band performing without any inhibitions providing a springboard for the ongoing creative growth of The Pineapple Thief.

For the first time, The Pineapple Thief has brought in several special guest performers. “Since our last album Magnolia, the most eye catching change is obviously having Gavin Harrison contribute drums throughout the album” explains Bruce Soord.  “This has not only redefined our sound but also redefined how we approached the songs as a band.  Gavin's drumming is technically brilliant but also incredibly musical, and it inspired all of us to raise our game.  I've also rediscovered my progressive roots in terms of song-writing and arrangement.  Added to that, we were lucky enough to have John Helliwell from Supertramp contribute some beautiful clarinet parts and Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan) provided a string quartet. We were also joined by a lovely 4 piece choir and to cap it all off, my friend Darran Charles (Godsticks) added some jaw dropping guitar playing... You've never heard a The Pineapple Thief album like this one!  I am convinced people will love this record as much as we do.”
 
The Pineapple Thief will be playing Be Prog! My Friend Festival in Barcelona, Spain on 1st July and is currently booking a European tour for late 2016 and planning live shows in USA / Canada.

The Pineapple Thief - No Man's Land (from Your Wilderness)

Included in the SNES game F-Zero, Sand Ocean (composed by Yumiko Kanki & Naoto Ishida) is one of my favourite tunes on a cartridge game. Definitely well-worth trying my hand at a re-instrumentation - I really didn't want to change it too much, so it wouldn't have qualified for OCREMIX.org.

Made in 2006 (my version), it uses Strat into TubePre into Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Jazz Bass into Tube Pre, and various synths and beats from FL Studio. The guitar was low-passed quite a bit to give it a rounder tone. The tune is played twice through.

Kilburn is a one-man effort born from the love of making music by any means possible.

Involved in bands through my twenties as a guitarist, the job of recording never began with me but eventually fell in my lap. Every time. Eventually, I gave up the pretense of not wanting it and volunteered whole-heartedly. The rest, as they say, is what you find here (and also the following Soundcloud accounts: /leftofhere & /saynomoremusic).

While not actively performing anymore, I occasionally jam & improv music with some awesome musicians in the Toronto core and post the beer-fueled results at /rehearsal-file-dump: I clearly like to surround myself with people who play a lot better than I do.

Incidentally, I chose the name Kilburn because calling my solo music outlet "Will Torrens" would let down everyone expecting a singer/songwriter wearing a plaid shirt and fairly restrictive bottoms. Both of which I own, but aren't necessarily vital for my 'brand'.

More accurately, Kilburn is a neighbourhood in northwest London (UK) where I spent 9 months living and learning a lot about myself. If you ever visit, drop by Kebap 49 at Kilburn & Cricklewood - best/greasiest lunch you'll ever not regret.
