Moonshine (2006)

This is the first track from the 2007 EP, Midnight Pine. Originally written as a film score, this rare and out of print recording captures Kill the Vultures operating with a unique sound pallet of  swing-era jazz while still weaving gritty, urban narratives of drunken despair, lynching, and Depression-era politics. 

Where The Cutthroats Stay (2007)

14th Street Ritual is the opening track from Kill the Vultures' 2009 full length album Ecce Beast. The track features Anatomy's (Stephen Lewis) signature sparse, raw, jazz samples, while Crescent Moon (Alexei Moon Casselle) weaves a dizzy urban-noir narrative of psychedelic, nocturnal imagery "through these criminal nights."

Slug brought Crescent Moon, still fresh out of high school, on the road as hype man for Atmosphere starting in 2001. They toured together for four years before Crescent moved on to focus on his own project, Kill The Vultures, with producer Anatomy. They have remained friends, and Kill The Vultures toured with Atmosphere in 2011.

The two Minneapolis bred rappers drove around recently and recorded their hour-long conversation about Dairy Queen, song-writing, stand-up comedy, and Slug’s early years in hip-hop. Check it out.

Kill the Vultures have a nocturnal, urban sound, which is undeniably avant garde, yet rooted in the traditions of hip-hop. In addition to their American audience, vocalist Crescent Moon and producer Anatomy have cultivated a sizeable fan base in Europe, where they headlined five tours, garnered praise from Rolling Stone, Les Insrocks, Blogothèque and had a “Hip-hop Album of the Year” cover story in respected Italian music magazine, Blow Up. Before KTV, Moon and Anatomy were part of hip-hop group Oddjobs, a member of the Third Earth crew along with Jean Grae, Mr. Len (Company Flow), Juggaknotts, and Pumpkinhead. They have toured with rap acts De La Soul, Talib Kweli, DJ Shadow, Buck 65, Lyrics Born and more.
