Recording of my set at TOYTOY JHB - March 24, 2023. I played 2 hours from 1am, keeping the pressure up most of the time, and then joined @Fabio909 to close the party down until 6am. Always an absolute pleasure to play to the receptive, educated audience that @welovetoytoy has built over the years and work out life's peaks and troughs on that Void sound system.

One of the things we pride ourselves on the most is the festival's ability to bring out other sides of our DJ's performance and personalities, and perhaps no one has become more synonymous with this than Bruno Morphet. His sets have always been an amalgamation of his interests as a DJ whether he is representing Killer Robot, Peroxide or himself in his solo capacity, and here is two and a half hours of him live at Power Flower last year; a perfect example of an artist comfortable outside of his comfort zone.

“The rough idea behind this mix was to try and highlight a more refined, afterhours style of techno. I’ve been quite bored by the output of a lot of my erstwhile favourite producers lately who seem to have abandoned form and structure in favour of a kind of new brutalism. This is fine if you happen to be Marcel Dettmann and you’re pounding Berghain for 9 hours at a time, and don’t get me wrong, I enjoy that as much as anyone, but for those of us who play regularly to (ahem) smaller rooms, its been tricky to navigate toward a sweet spot with that kind of artillery superseding everything else nowadays. There are some new tracks and some old standbys on this mix, with a view towards a cool (in the classic jazz sense) sound that I try to look for at the moment.” - Bruno

A recording of my sunrise set on Saturday morning 04 May 2013. Pretty much everything thrown into this mix, it migrates from big, dark techno records in the dead of night to warmer deeper stuff as the dawn begins to break over the desert. Probably the most unique setting I have ever played in. It was a very, very special experience and I thank the LedHedz for the opportunity to play on their bus.

Killer Robot began life in 2006 as a platform to host the best in local and international techno artists and djs, in the process quickly becoming recognized as a pre-eminent dj collective in its own right.

Since then Killer Robot has become synonomous with the staging of cutting edge talent, seeking out and hosting some of the biggest names on the international circuit, often with a prescient ability to... pick upcoming stars.

The list of artists to have graced the decks at KR over the last four years is as impressive as it is diverse. From the dark, bass driven techno of Konrad Black to the delicate patterns of Julius Smallville, the post industrial machine music of Alex Smoke to the future funk onslaught of Seth Troxler, Killer Robot has embraced all of the finest exponents of the artform.

Not content with just booking the talent, the Killer Robot residents themselves have toured locally and abroad, playing a series of influential club gigs as well as all of the biggest festivals in South Africa, with Bruno a semi regular guest in Germany and Ivan being asked to warmup for the legendary Kevin Saunderson in Scotland in 2009.
