Sound work created for the Audio Interpretation Internship for the Woodlands Trust. The sound work and poetry is inspired by visitor experiences and when combined, creates a collection of audio portraits. Movements of people through the landscape and their reflections of time spent at Glen Finglas inspired the work, as well as the natural objects and environments of the glen. Glen Finglas is managed by the Woodland Trust Scotland and is part of the Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve.

Inspired by the art critic Susan Sontag's essay Aesthetics of Silence, this piece presents a humorous look at the idea of how silence has been explored through sound art.

A series of spoken quotes that discuss silence have been recorded with all word content deleted. What is left is the 'presence' of a body and the words that were not spoken with the focus on what is missing.

Not Everything That Can Be Thought Can Be Said (2017)

A study of sound, spectatorship and how we connect and relate to characters and each other. Playing with the fictional event, a new narrative has been created with fragments of speech collected when watching TV dramas.

You Looked Familiar For A Second (2018)

Sound installation with vinyl record, amp, turntable, speakers and spotlights. A choir sings football chants recorded in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The de-contextualisation of the chants highlights their vulgar and humorous content and helps to make lyrics legible. Of interest is the social history of Glasgow and sectarian divisions still present in the city manifested within football.

Glory, Glory!

Live performance for three performers with three text scores. Commissioned for the sonADA Festival: Sound of Others (2018), Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.

Three performers recite three scores, the texts taken from the writers Susan Sontag, Luc Tesson and Salome Voeglin, each reflecting on silence within art, life and sound. Each performer focuses on only communicating the beginning of each word, enabling meaning to become fluid and move between truth and fiction. What is left is the 'presence' of a body and the words that were not spoken with the focus, with listeners able to activate the work as they guess words and create their own meanings around what is not being spoken.

Stereo audio composition to connect our current contemporary community and way of life to that of the ancient Iron Age community of 2500 years ago.

The work uses ‘erasure’ as a conceptual methodology in the sound work created for the residency, and within this concept, I have been referencing the ‘erased and lost’ objects and histories of these ancient people.

The piece was created as part of an artist residency post at The Scottish Crannog Centre, supported by the SGSAH.
