My high-school days were spent in the quiet, conservative suburbs of eastern Pretoria. Exciting highlights of those years include watching ex-bodybuilders fold frying pans in the name of Christian ministry. While inspiring, huffing air into hot water bottles wasn't enough 'pop' us out on our placid, small existence. I escaped the churning, mundane routine of uniformed school by listening to the grimy tales of UK rap artists Nick Brewer, Guvna B and the like. It wasn't unusual to find me bobbing my head to the fast, flat-'timbred' lyrics of Brewer while enduring butt-numbing assemblies. "Scorch It' is homage to the Grime heroes that stirred the stillness of modest youth, all the while blazing the emblem for an unstoppable faith that now defines my life. Listen to it here.
