"One of the first things you need to know about Doel is that it’s not a ghost town and never was. It is still inhabited, albeit by only 18 people (counted in 2020), when just 20 years earlier that number was over 800. So what happened?
‍
It all started in the sixties, when plans for industrial expansion were on the horizon. The harbour of Antwerp would extend its grounds and Doel was supposed to have disappeared for it, as villagers were ordered a building ban before constructions had even started. This would mark the beginning of the small town’s tumultuous history."

I had the honour of playing after @veldvolpostelein and before the wonderful live of @hame-compathy and dj sets by @seduction-dream-dust, @technosbnc, @gieglingdustin and @lola-haro at the first Doel Festival ever this year. A new festival created by the dream team of @klubdramatik and @paradise-city-festival. They did an amazing job putting this endeavour together and getting things moving. 

It was an otherworldly and much anticipated experience. Picture a sci-fi environment on a showery day. Cold, dark and wet. Beautiful scenery and details all around. The people there were driven, full of love and ready to dance. A real dedicated crowd. Respect!!! <3

What Frequency does happiness live in?

Sunday afternoon on a splendidly beautiful and sunny day. It’s my dad’s birthday. We arrive on the 4th floor COOP in Anderlecht. Cool building with 360 views of BXL. 

@lunarconvoy is paving the way with mesmerising tunes and I get in the mood. Suddenly a man rolls in onto the dance floor on his in-line skates… seems he came with my dad! 🤭

When I take over I’m slightly nervous (so you can hear by my first mix hahahah). The crowd makes me feel so welcome, they are giving me encouraging smiles and everybody’s moving. Suddenly the flow is there… two hours flew by like the birds outside. 

@sonhan took over and guided us in a deeper state of ecstasy. For me it was one of the most satisfying gigs I did in my short carrière. 

Love to all of you who was there. Humbled and thankful. <3

Awaking to a different story (02)

Sweet people, 

So this re-recorded mix came forth out of my set at the Cochilo Stage at Waking Life. I prepared my set by making a playlist with a lot of tracks I would like to play. Then I listed almost every track with different transition outcomes. So they all had different options and I could choose which one I felt like playing. This was the outcome of that beautiful Friday night between 03:30 and 05:30.

It has tracks of Axel Willner in his many forms (as himself, as The Field and as Hands) but also Golden Baby, Grand River, Biosphere, Mika Vianio, ASC, Anna Homler, Julianna Barwick, Brian Eno and even Jackson C. Frank and Dinosaur Jr. -can you spot this one?-
