Continuing the journey — part two of my set from Fuse

Room01 was electric, with a crowd that knows how to connect, buzzing with energy and openness. It was a true pleasure to warm things up with a 3-hour set, and playing Carl Craig’s At Les (Christian Smith's Tronic Treatment remix) for the first time at the perfect moment was the highlight. A real tribute to the '90s, when I was a regular on that dancefloor. A flood of memories came rushing back. This is the nightclub that opened my eyes and ears in the 90s. In every way. Meeting many likeminded souls every weekend as a Fuse regular. The world-renowned music institute where i got my cutting edge electronic music education. The place where i felt at home. Finally feeling part of a community. Fuse continues to live up to its iconic legacy.

It’s all about coming full circle. 

And while futureproofing has always been at the forefront of his mind, it’s worth mentioning that Kim Mathijs has been leaving indelible imprints around the Belgian electronic music spectrum for quite a while. From curating niche compilations over radio shows to breathing fresh air into festival line-ups (yes, that sublime Booth stage at Pukkelpop holds his signature). Kim is also sculpting and mentoring emerging DJ talent through DKO and the Tomorrowland Academy. 

As far as stacking up memorable moments behind the decks. Kim has been there, and he’s done it, diligently and complete with all the bells and whistles. Now it’s time to strip it all back, reconnect with his roots and elevate his long-time passion for the fundamentals. 

Think of the genres that are heavy on synths, funk, and laced with cosmic vibes. The core elements that defined the proto-house movement: italo, disco, garage, house and everything in between. No gimmicks, no blinders, only gems. 

But there’s more in Kim’s saddlebag. He won’t confine himself to just sought-after classics alone; He prefers blending timeless essentials and contemporary work. If you fancy some bigger kick drums, breaks and Jersey Club, with a detour to stripped-down techno or trance-influenced club tracks, park yourself in front of the man. He’ll be happy to deliver with an impact.
