This album emerges from the rediscovery of an accordion following the loss of a close relative an instrument that had been a constant companion throughout their life, weaving itself into the fabric of childhood memory. At its core lies the recognition that both human and
accordion share the same essential act: breathing.

The accordion becomes a meditation on mortality and memory, its bellows expanding and contracting like "lungs", its air valve releasing pure breath without melody—the raw pneumatic essence of life itself. Every sound originates from this single instrument, largely unprocessed, preserving the intimate relationship between human touch and mechanical response.

It’s an investigation of how an instrument can hold the memory of hands that no longer play it. The mechanical whispers, the subtle articulations of metal and leather and wood become a language of remembrance, breathed rather than spoken.

Metánoia II (2020)

For the second instalment of Broken Borders I've invited Dutch DJ and producer French II aka Frank Klick for an hour of his functional and murky, breaks- and percussion-heavy sound, formed from his deep-rooted ties to UK bass music. The mix is loaded with quality tracks from the likes of Kode9, Pearson Sound and Phon.o and takes us on a journey through UK Bass, Breaks and Jungle, and it's a great example of what he can do behind the decks.

As a former member of BANGANAGANGBANGERS collective, he's been releasing monstrous beats with signature grimey vocals, weaving together eclectic mixes of anything from dubstep to drum and bass to footwork. Taking up his new moniker French II, he's embarked on a new chapter in his music career as a solo artist, marking it with his debut EP Hytune / Quite OK released on Intercept which gained early support from the likes of Call Super, re:ni, Aquarian and Stenny.

The first hour comes courtesy of myself and includes a load of new tracks I've been loving recently from Batu, Soundbwoy Killah, Em + Stav, Pugilist, Thodén and Dbridge to mention a few.
