When going through old DATtapes, I have to share this clever character with you. Here are five excerpts from about 30 minutes of the original recording. Males of Blyth's warblers come from Finland and the Baltic areas mostly, and show up in Sweden at some 10-20 places every year. The first one I recorded was in 1976, but the analog tape has forgotten most of the song's brilliance. This one was made in June 1987 with a Telinga PROIII handle and parabol, the first version of StereoDATmic and a Sony TCD-D10.  Only the Telinga built in high pass filter was used and the track is normalized. It's my favorite song bird and I hope you enjoy.
In the background is a Nightingale and a Grasshopper Warbler.

BlythsWarbler

This was recorded in late October, in the hour before dawn, on the Luangwa River in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.  The first part of the recording features the undulating liquid call of White-browed Coucal. Noisy Egyptian Geese, White-crowned Lapwing and Hadeda Ibis are heard throughout, as is the splashing of Hippopotamus in the river. The track ends with a loud exchange of Hippopotamus grunts.

This is a SongTrush at Telinga 2016-04-24, but most important an ambience recording of wind in a big forest of spruce trees. Two EM23 type III at each side of a camera bag, placed about a meter up at a tripod.

Whip-poor-will and Snipe

As Spring Peeper frogs chirp at sunset, a Carolina Wren echos through the forest in spite of interruption by crowd of crabby crows, the Big Cypress National Preserve, West of Miami Florida. Recorded April 2020 with Audio Technica AT4025 XY stereo & Sound Devices MixPre-3.

When the Roebuck jumps away at 1m18s, one can hear a very low frequent sound. It can´t be from the ground, so it must be through the air from his body. (?) I would be grateful for any comment on this.  
Any effective hp filter that I tried for the low traffic noise, deleted the low freq sounds as well.

Kirpakka is a little swamp nearby with some older forest left and with a nesting pair of White-tailed Eagle.  When I left the place in late evening there was five Eagles in the trees around the swamp.  The spawning Pike coming up the stream to the swamp is most likely the reason for them to be there.

The local flock of Common Teal panics every time an eagle makes a raid.   The stroke from the big wing is also distinguishable in most attacks as also the calls of the eagle.  Some of the most distinctive flights starts at:

Hello everyone,

I recorded this dawn chorus of birds at 6:30am after a night of camping. It had been a really wild night of scares and bears so the peacefulness of this morning was much welcomed. 

I'm still getting to know my new Sony PCM D100 and I'm loving every step of the way. If I could go back to this moment, I would have used headphones to get my left and right channels more balanced. I was just so tired that I didn't make the extra effort.

Dawn Chorus in a Meadow | 6:30am [Field Recording]

Here are the last sounds from the 2013 season here at Telinga, in middle Sweden. Now it is almost silent everywhere, except in the very north. 
The recording location, about 600 meters away from here, was turned into a moonlandscape by forest companies 8 years ago. Now it still looks terrible and you can't walk there, but with quite a lot of small streams and ponds, it is now a totally different biotope than before. Now there are ducks and snipes and other "nice" species, rather than the everywhere tits and doves. On top of the birds you can hear on the track, I have heard / seen crane, ural owl, tawny owl, eurasian pygmy-owl, eurasian sparrowhawk, goshawk, common buzzard, honey buzzard, white-tailed eagle and a few unknown different species of geese. I am not greatful for forest companies, but sometimes it seems to turn out well.   

The left center is a Whinchat, (Saxicola rubetra) and the right one a Tree Pipit, (Anthus trivialis), both common species. A number of  Common snipes (Gallinago gallinago) are flying around making the display sound from their tail feathers and their "tchach" and "tchich-tchach". One is passing very near the SSM at 2m05s.

In the background are wryneck, chaffinch, wood pidgeon, stock pidgeon, green woodpecker, yellowhammer, song thrush, blackbird, black grouse (back after seven years of absence) , great tit and raven, probably more.

The recording was made on May 11 at about 3am and the traffic noise is from the E4 highway 6 km away, almost 40 miles. Cautiously filtered in the lowest region.
