Probably our last Down To Earth night we put on alongside Public Affair and @pressuredome at Strange Brew in Bristol a few weeks ago. The energy and positivity in that room was the best I’ve felt in a while and all the DJs were sick. The party was a mega success and being able to run it with friends made it all the more rewarding.

I’ve always enjoyed doing warm-ups. In some hypothetical dream scenario where I could play for any party at any club & choose my slot, I’d choose to do the warm-up.

I find watching a room fill up & laying the foundations for an entire night &/or day of partying is often the most satisfying experience you can have as a DJ.

Sometimes I think there can be a bit of a narrative that you have to ‘play it safe’ during the early hours of an event, but I actually often think the opposite. I think as long as you get the mood right, you’re free to play some of the most interesting music.

I'm gonna go for @achterban - They’re not tied to a particular sound but instead always combine DJs from all different genres throughout their programming. Their event production is always great, they bring a lot of visual art & lighting installations to the club to good effect.

Oh there are loads, how can I just pick one? @yopoono is always impressive. Every time I listen to him I always think he’s really good at getting his tracks in the right order. Sounds simple I guess but it's probably the most important thing to get right haha.

Earlier this year I went to Golden Pudel for the first time.

What a club. It’s really got everything you want imo. Small room, low lighting, cracking system & a crowd full of people really into their tunes & up for having a good time. 10/10, would Pudel again.

It doesn’t feel competitive. There are a lot of creative people doing a lot of cool things but, in my experience at least, it’s never felt like they’re fighting for their own space. People are open to collabs & support each other’s endeavours.

Far too many to choose from but the first time I saw DJ Sprinkles will always stand out. She has this whole different way of thinking about what a DJ set can be. I’ve never heard anyone else do it like her.

The last one that really left its mark was Floid on @woodyninetytwo Neon Cleptu show on @lyl_radio. Crazy tunes, expertly blended. Out to Marco for putting it on at work!

I lived in Helsinki for a year & went to @clubkaiku near enough every weekend whilst I was there. Something about that place & the way it’s run, the way the booth is built, the soundsystem & the crowd of regulars that attend, it always seemed to bring the best out of the DJs that played there.

The whole scene in Helsinki is really top notch. It’ll always have a special place in my heart.

Also, memories of going to the @hessleaudio residency at @fabric when I was 18/19. Truly transformative experiences.

Thank you! I mostly go with rhythmic or melodic elements that fit together and see what feels right in the moment. I feel like theres so much good music that can be mixed together that I don't want to limit myself. At the other hand I'm not sure if I'm being a bit all over the place sometimes - I suppose it's always a bit of a fight finding your sound and this year I have really noticed that with djing.

I started playing the flute when I was 6 or so, then was in some death metal & hardcore punk bands in my teens playing bass and guitar but really started getting into producing around 2009 with a sampler and then around 2011-2012 properly into producing with the computer. Started buying & playing records in 2010.

I really love having some kind of soundworld in my music. I just like to create it and sort of sit in that kind of place. I find that very peaceful, even if it maybe sounds quite dark from the outside. I also try to add so many sounds that it's hard to tell where they start and end. Some kind of organised chaos - definitely an inspiration that comes from listening to Flying Lotus' Los Angeles Album.

The other big thing for me is sub bass. I somehow find very deep kicks extremely satisfying so that's an important factor for me, too.

For the concept of this mix I wanted to put together a selection of tracks inspired by some of my favourite moments on the dance floor this year. Those times when the night stretches into early morning, and the energy is electric, yet the atmosphere is mystical and dark.

For the mix I tried to focus on the stripped back low-end driven sides of trance and progressive music, hopefully capturing the energy and atmosphere of those memorable sections of club nights.

As the mix unfolds, there's a progression in energy to play on being drawn deeper into those nights where you can feel that building sense of liveliness and anticipation.

There’s warmness and friendliness you experience on a night out that’s hard to find anywhere else

When recording mixes I try to imagine in what setting I'd probably listen to them.  This one was made to fit my evening journeys when the sun has set but there’s still some lingering twilight. I aimed for both old and new records that were mysterious or deep, keeping the tempo low(ish) and the energy measured.

I grew up with parents that were in musical theater and dance, so I've always been surrounded by a family that enjoys this and encourages participation.  As a kid, courtesy of my dad, I listened to a lot of disco, funk, soul, reggae and rock, which definitely plays some part in what I'm drawn to. I got into various forms of electronic music probably during secondary school and then when university came around I got exposed to a lot more Techno through friends and being a regular partygoer in Leeds.  I had the luxury of finding an amazing group of mates who were all interested in the same thing, which really helped to encourage searching for records and Djing.  We would all mess around playing long b2bs together which really inspired me and developed my sound.  These days, I’m working as a buyer for Juno Records in Camden which has really expanded my knowledge of music and introduced me to so much more.

It came from my relationship with dreaming. We don't realize that we spend half our lives unconscious, dreaming, growing and the majority of us don't actually remember our dreams. I do!!! I remember them so well that I feel like they are another life for me, another world nip into creating but sometimes having no control over. I wake up daily confused or affected in some sort of way whether that is positive or negative. I believe they speak to us or remind us of another force out there, accessing that part of our brain and the universe we are longing for. Mixes or sets are quite like dreams, going on a transcendent journey unsure of what to expect. The weird subconscious worries we latch onto or deep desires in us and that’s what I wanted to create with this, a two hour mix inspired by those intricate and bitter sweet emotions starting slow with parts of chaos in there. I grew up in a very musical household. Both my parents and family were music heads. They were very young when they had me so I grew up in a young adults home with their friends and our family around :) My dad especially, being Jamaican, was a huge lover of dancehall, bashment, jungle & Rnb. My Mum introduced me to pop, triphop and rnb and I was surrounded by cds, records and videos, having a small collection of my own when I was like 7/8, I still collect Cds today. I remember my parents used to have small gatherings at our house when I was a kid and invite friends and family around and there would be loud music playing through huge sound system speakers in the backroom…. I was so involved and curious and it stuck with me! As a DJ and producer I now look for that nostalgic feeling and emotion in music. I like sensual rhythms and deep groovy kicks and drums, kind of like in rnb or dancehall. I think because of how eclectic my musical childhood was has given me more of an open minded outlook when playing or listening to music. I like all genres and usually play a mixture of them creating my own sound with a few tracks from different genre families.

I opened the basement in De school which was MAD, the crowd from start to finish were here for it. Laak in Den Hag was also something else but also @ankali, Prague was defo my fave!! The energy in that club and the party and people were just amazing, I wanna go back!

My name’s Lucie (she/her) and I live deeeep in South London.

This set was originally recorded at Goo Night in Spanners, a snug, intimate venue in South East London. Imagine a roomful of free, sweaty bodies moving to the rhythm, surrounded by dense red-tinted haze. The atmosphere was sexy and sticky that night. 

A little disclaimer regarding the recording. I had to re-record the second part of the set at home due to sound quality but the essence of it is in no way compromised 🙂

I wanted to put together a set focusing on spaciousness and the interplay between heady depth and liberating playfulness, exploring ways in which the two can meaningfully coexist. The idea was to allow the audience to release their body fully on the dancefloor so obviously there had to be a good amount of energy running through the veins of the set. But at the same time, I really wanted to tickle their minds, open doors to imagination, introduce depth so if one really listens in, there is a whole world of sonic magic to explore - a complexity both sonic and emotional.

The process always starts with digging for new music that sets the tone for the playlist or when packing my record bag. I look for a specific flavour of sounds for each gig, thinking about the context in which I will be playing and trying to understand what possible directions I can take. 

Once I select those fresh tracks, I start building the rest of the playlist around it, first more generally and as I listen back with the set approaching, I keep refining it until it feels like it has enough substance. At the same time, I make sure it is generous enough so I can cover a lot of ground if the gig goes in a different direction than what I expected. It’s always a balance of keeping one’s artistic integrity while working with the crowd to create a powerful experience for everyone.

Terra Obscura is a collaborative event I run together with my close friend Alicia. We started the series back in March 2022 at Ormside Project which is still our home to this day. Me and Alicia have an impressive overlap in terms of music taste but we are also quite good at challenging each other's ideas which I believe is important for a healthy growth of any project. We are both into a lot of deep, intricate music within the ambient & downtempo, techno, breaks & bass realm to give you a very rough idea about our programming. 

When we are building a line-up, we always throw around a lot of names and then try to find a common thread among the artists we want to book. We imagine how their sound would work in a particular slot and how their sets would flow into each other so there is a sense of development throughout the night. This process is usually quite long but in some ways really intuitive. 

What is very important for us is to approach the event as a whole, a night that effortlessly moves forward along a curatorial narrative, one step at a time from the start to the very end, moving from horizontal ambient to sweaty dance as it progresses.

I think my earliest memories are listening to Hardcore tapes from raves my parents used to go to as well as my dad's pals mixes, my whole childhood has been electronic music. My understanding of the music came from a very wholesome place but being young and  raised in a farming town I was cut off from these scenes. Getting the chance as I've grown older to live in different cities I have jumped at the chance to experience different music scenes whether it has been in  Hull,Newcastle or now London.

I started producing about 11 years ago now, my process has changed multiple times since then. I don't come from a musical background which has been a blessing and as curse as I have found ways of making music non musically which I feel gives me an edge of approaching my productions from a unique angle. This approach is sometimes very long and frustrating but overall I can make something that sounds fresh and new to my ears and thats what I think electronic music is about at the end of the day.

Firstly, thanks to Dj wiggles for the opportunity to contribute to the Kinetic series <3

The mix is experimental and long-form, exploring ambient meditative selections as well as darker bass-heavy and textured tracks from across the bpm spectrum, with several tracks warped far from their original bpm. The pace, mood and energy fluctuate. Some tracks emerge quickly, like intrusive thoughts or distractions, others are  given more time to breathe merging into the mix more subtly. This reflects the often unpredictable and challenging nature of losing and regaining a sense of presence and control. The mix has a symbolic cyclical nature, returning to particular percussive sounds and motifs as it progresses. 

Many philosophies motivate me to DJ including the belief everything is connected to the collective and sound exists at that intersection, it is a universally connecting force that exists at the boundaries where mind and body meet the world. All creative practices are intrinsically informed by the personal experiences of their creator/s. This imbues them with narrative and gives them the potential for human connection at these boundaries. 

The title of the mix “decompression” alludes to the pursuit of emotive release. It is a response to life at present - from harrowing world events, to personal challenges and introspection. I hope people enjoy and connect with it, perhaps finding some peace of mind by its end.

I started the Fortune Sessions nights in 2019. Before then I threw a lot of house parties. When I had to move into a house unsuitable for big gatherings I began looking for a venue. 

The Fortune of War is a venue located on Brighton beach. It has an intimate dance floor space indoors for winter events and then a big outdoor space for parties in summer. It’s well-loved by locals, with a friendly and laid-back vibe. For a grassroots night it felt like the perfect fit. 

The first session went well but then Covid hit just before the second event was due to happen. I was disappointed but it gave me time to develop the aim and concept behind the events. I also acquired a better sound system to power them. The second session finally took place in March 2022 and two years on I’m preparing for the 15th!

The Fortune Sessions have always had a multi-genre format with a commitment to diversity behind the decks, and a low-key unpretentious vibe. The venue being a pub rather than a club means that the events draw a crowd of dedicated ravers as well as people just out for a good time. Not everyone who enjoys dance music vibes with the club environment, so I’m glad to be able to platform niche genres in an unintimidating space to a wider audience. The nights being free entry also means its more accessible, giving the opportunity for new musical discovery. On a few occasions I’ve been asked “what IS this music??” by people on the dancefloor.

For this mix I wanted to try and build a blend some of the outcome of my researches towards the different shades and forms of danceable music I personally enjoy the most, possibly limiting as much as possible the usage of music conceived and created specifically for the contemporary dance floors and sound systems, and trying to dig deeper into different dimensions of regular and non-regular rhythms, music jams and head-moving sonic creations from all over the world, mostly focusing on the mediterranean macro area and more.

My past, when I was living in Berlin and DJing more regularly in clubs, has helped me shape my technical skills. Milano instead has helped me breaking my limits, getting out of my comfort zone and destroying a lot of the patterns that, as a DJ and Music Maker, were locking me down in a box. There’s a lot of oxygen, curiosity and creativity nowadays in my everyday life.

I wanted to create something that had a vibrant, summery yet dope feeling and it just so turned out id been subconsciously collecting the right tunes to make that happen.

My first rave experiences were to the sounds of Drum n’ Bass and although I’ve strayed from the genre and now love and play other stuff, I think my non 4/4 roots come through in most things that I do. I like the versatility and experimentation of a breakbeat and feel it leaves more room to play - both behind and in front of the DJ booth.

I co-founded two projects here in Berlin, Double Trouble and FACILITATE. For Double Trouble, we do two versions of the night, one being focussed on the art of _baerchenwurst_, displayed on a backdrop of ambient music at our cute hangout spot Kwia and the other is pure party at Zur Klappe. We focus on bass music and are FLINTA so that plays a big role in the curation. I run the night together with DJ Doc and we started in December 2022. 

FACILITATE. I run together with DJ NORTHERN and we are a FLINTA Drum n’ Bass event which we started in November 2023. Both events were started to create more space for FLINTA DJ’s in the Berlin bass music scene, to make more space for bass loving queers on the dance floor and also just because we love it!

To be honest, I have found the world to be particularly dark this last year. When I thought about a concept and vibe for this mix, I struggled to go towards a happier direction, as it felt in contradiction with how I’ve felt recently. I have naturally leaned towards deeper, maybe more melancholic and dubby sounds for this one.
I am nonetheless amazed by all the great people around me fighting day after day for a better and more just future for everyone, it gives me hope and comfort, and that’s also reflected in this mix by lots of brighter, more hopeful moments.

It was actually a very soothing and cathartic experience recording this mix, thank you so much for inviting me <3

I’m from a place where there weren't a lot of clubs, or wasn’t much happening musically, so a lot of my first experiences with live electronic music were with warehouses, raves, or traveling to Spain close-by to go to afters or parties.
As someone who can be very obsessive about the things I’m passionate about, I just had to know everything, and was making tons of lists about labels, artists, releases, spending hours looking for tracklists on Mixes-db (soon RIP 😢), looking for parties and clubs on RA, and also started collecting vinyls, that I was always too shy to play in front of people.

Going to London and especially Fabric and Plastic People, as well as Freerotation also had a huge impact on me, and opened me up to a whole new world of sound.

Even though this music thing was objectively what was taking the most space in my life, through which I met most of my friends and found most of my jobs, for the longest time I just couldn’t imagine djing in front of people (even my friends), or even try to get better at it. I was thinking about it a lot, but just always felt it wasn’t for me, that I wasn’t really good at it, and wouldn’t manage to get better. I really had to push myself (and still have to tbh) very hard to get out of this mindset.

Aw thanks, really appreciate that <3 with radio sometimes it’s hard to know if people are actually listening, so I’m always so happy to hear someone say that they’ve been enjoying the show!
It will be 3 years of Therapy Dog next October. I started doing shows on Refuge before that, but started Therapy Dog in October 2021. I’m not sure there was too much of a concept to be honest, but I love dogs and mental health is something I have struggled with and find important, and I’m yet to find a quicker fix to being a bit down than petting a cute dog!

I like inviting friends and artists that I like on the show, and try to adapt to their style. If I’m doing it on my own, I’ll try to go with a specific theme. This show brought me so much joy over the last few years, always so nice to get to play some b2bs with friends or dig to find new music, as well as some regular time to practice and experiment outside the club. It also taught me to be a little more confident speaking on air, which I would never have been able to do before that.

The intention of this mix is to guide one down the path of introspection and exploration. I moved to Naarm/Melbourne earlier this year and it has made me realise how unbelievably lucky I am to live here in “Australia”. Artists like Zara, OK EG, Tangerine & Gi have me bursting at the seams with excitement for the sounds coming out of this place.

I started DJ’ing as a means to have fun with my homies and at that moment, it all came together in a beautiful celebration.

Thank you ! The way I build a radio show is slightly different from how I prepare for a live show, though both share the common thread of creating a narrative or storyline. I have a deep obsession with discovering new music, constantly searching for tracks I haven't heard before. I dig through platforms like Bandcamp and Discogs, and working for the bookings and programming at Venue MOT, where I spend most weekends, exposes me to a wide variety of music that I often Shazam. A radio mix, for me, is essentially a curated compilation of my favorite tracks discovered that month. When preparing for a live show, however, I have to consider factors like set time, the venue, and the rest of the lineup. My process involves going through my music library and organising tracks into different folders, always with a clear direction in mind for where I want to take the audience.

“Screwed & Chopped” (or Chopped & Screwed) is a distinctive sub-genre of Hip-Hop that originated in Houston, Texas, created by DJ Screw. This remixing technique involves slowing down the tempo of the music to create a unique sound. Inspired by this concept, I’ve applied the same principle to a different genre, transforming tracks with an original BPM of around 170 to a more laid-back 100 BPM.

This approach embodies the essence of Hip-Hop: reimagining and remixing existing material to fit a new context. I’m a hip-hop kid at heart, I have a monthly hip-hop show (called “Beats, Rhymes & Life”) on Amsterdam’s Echobox Radio. As much as I can, I like to highlight the importance of hip-hop and the undeniable (massive) influence it has had on modern music, art, fashion and culture. The art of DJing—blending two records together—traces its roots to Hip-Hop, and without it, the evolution of dance music would be unrecognisable.

I’m a self-taught DJ. I got a pair of CDJs + mixer about 7 years ago. My style of DJ’ing is basically a result of spending endless hours in the basement of De School. I was captivated by countless DJ’s in that space over the years. I devoted time to listening with intent, observing from behind the DJ booth, analysing their techniques. Then going home experimenting and trying to figure out on my mixer how they were making certain sounds or rumbles. What emerged from this process is my own interpretation of techno mixing techniques but applying them to different styles of music. E.g. UK music. I mix drum & bass with the same precision and layering as berghain-style techno. I do a lot of layering, especially with bass lines, using 3 CDJ’s.

This mix is something I’ve been thinking about for a while - the reemergence of low end psychedelia. I call it a reemergence as I feel like it could be linked to the trippy side of dubstep with the likes of Skull Disco and that sound coming back but on a much broader scale. I spoke about it in an interview recently as something I’ve become obsessed with, in particular this year, and I don’t really see any platforms covering it or trying to encapsulate this really exciting musical movement. Low end psychedelia can range from techno, trance, drum & bass, dubstep and more but the through line is this deep, trippy soundscape. The mix I’ve created highlights this push and pull between the slow/fast side of this sound where it ranges from 85 to 170 bpm, weaving through spacey, swampy and wonked-out techno, drum & bass and IDM. Something that’s worth mentioning is that a lot of the artists who are coming through in this scene are based in France, most notably Lyon and that’s what I want to write about and get to the bottom of, what’s the history there and what’s going on in France right now that’s influencing this movement. Some artists and labels to shout out include Christian Coiffure, Vardae, Comic Sans Records, SousTraitance, Beatrice M., Hewan Aman, Blue Night Jungle, Monochrome Records, sindh, kick21, minú jr and many more!

Ambient music was really my saviour during lockdown. I was going through my first heartbreak and living in a different country, which I moved to 6 months before the lockdown happened. There was no escaping your feelings during this time, you had to face them head on, as soon as they appeared, so I started building these playlists filled with ambient music as a way of giving myself some headspace during particularly tricky times. Or they would be what I would listen to on my ‘sanity walks’, something I still make sure I do everyday. I have such an emotional connection to this music and there was one really tough Christmas period where I decided to turn these playlists into the sounds of healing mix series - the first edition is literally the first ever playlist I made during this time and the Refuge Worldwide show was an extension of that, showing other strings of ambient music that might not necessarily fit within the ‘healing’ theme. Stating the obvious here but music is a really powerful tool for addressing emotions and this was my way of connecting with that.

For several months now, I have been taking the time to explore Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ book Women Who Run with the Wolves. She specifically discusses the notion of Rio Abajo Rio, the River beneath the river, which echoes the depths of the unconscious and the instinctive wisdom that flows within us, even when we are unaware of it. She uses this metaphor to illustrate the primal life force and feminine intuition that exist beneath the surface of our daily lives.
This underground river symbolizes natural instincts, ancestral knowledge, and creativity that continue to flow within us, even when they are sometimes stifled by social or personal pressures. A book that is both inspiring and unsettling, as it deeply resonates with my life’s quest today.

This set is a search for reconnection with Rio Abajo Rio, a journey toward my purest and deepest essence—my inner power—in order to reclaim my intuitive nature.

From a purely aesthetic perspective, this set is woven with Ambient, Techno, Breaks, Abstract, and D’n’B sounds, all tied together by a percussive and organic universe.

"I have been immersed in music since I was a child. My parents were involved in the Hard Rock scene. On my mother’s side, part of my family is from Brittany, so Breton music also played a big role in my childhood.

When I was old enough to go out, I dived into so many different scenes—Tribe, Hardcore, and Trance through Raves and Free Parties, Techno to House, Dubstep to D’n’B through clubs and festivals, Dub, Experimental Music, Noise, Ambient, Punk through alternative spaces and squats. This opened countless doors for me, leading to interconnected musical worlds.

Later, my job at Macadam also broadened my musical perspective, thanks to its artistic direction. That's why I generally need to move between different musical styles. My musical approach is entirely based on my feelings, emotions, moods, and, of course, the connection with the crowd when I play.

This is also why I love b2b sets—they push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to discover even more.

𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘅I wanted to capture the sounds I’m currently into — a blend of organic drum patterns that sit somewhere between techno, bass, and dubstep. While recording, I was listening a lot to T++, whose shifting, intricate rhythms always strike me. The beginning also features field recordings from Nairobi, evoking a kind of big city energy — sometimes soothing, sometimes stressful.

My goal was never just to make functional club tracks, but to tell stories that resonate with me and my friends. The constant exchange with Mafou and Mukuna has probably shaped my music the most.

A strong identity linked to our fathers’ home continent, Africa, is also at the core of the label.

𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘅
This mix explores weird and experimental drum patterns. I wanted to create a journey through dark and weird rhythms that challenge the usual beat structures and that typically characterise my DJ sets. The drums are always different, sometimes off the beaten path, creating varied dynamics—moments that are upbeat as well as static, trippy moments—giving the entire set a mysterious and intense atmosphere. In my DJ sets, I like to bring together all the music and genres that have influenced and shaped my musical path over time.

𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰?
I was lucky to grow up in a family where music has always been a priority. I’m grateful to my parents for passing down this passion to me. My first approach to music was through acoustic drums—my father is a drummer and my mother took singing lessons. For me, playing drums was a moment of freedom, a way to vent, but also a love-hate relationship. I remember that at some point, I couldn’t express myself the way I wanted or with the people I wanted. 
Over the years, I got closer to the clubs in my area, and my love for the DJ figure was immediate. For several years, I lived in Puglia, my hometown, where I took my first steps as a DJ. Those were beautiful years, full of learning and hard work and research, all to start playing in clubs and illegal parties eheh

𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲?
Right now, I think the music scene in Milan is one of the most prolific and solid in Europe. There are so many high-level artists, each with their own background and unique sound. Moving here was a turning point for me since the beginning, I’ve felt motivated and inspired by all the artists I’ve connected with. I believe growing in an environment where the scene is this strong and innovative is essential for any artist.
That said, one of the biggest issues in the city right now is the lack of spaces to play, perform, and organize parties. Prices are also insanely high, which makes it really hard to access and self-fund events. What we’re doing is a form of resistance..we have a mission, and we need to keep it alive.

We've been a fan of sleek fata for a while now, often tuning into his exquisitely put together "Cremation of Care" shows - which explore a wide spectrum of experimental music focused on tracks with an high sound design profile going from psychedelic electronics to jazz with a touch of punk and trip hop between.

This mix beautifully showcases the variety of his tastes and skills of mixing it all together, from dub to dubstep, techno to half time & masterfully jumping tempo’s - sleek fata’s got it covered.

𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘅
I wanted to build a thematic journey that could bring together different types of music and tempos, while still feeling coherent as a whole. I found a strong inspiration in the icy textures of dub techno, it sparked the whole idea. So this is essentially a cold journey through the dub techno continuum (dub techno in the broad sense): half-time, dubstep, dub techno, footwork, downtempo… each track shares a similar colour palette, sonically speaking. Think light blue, white, and grey tones. I imagined a dancer trapped in a cold room with a perfect sound system, moving and reacting to these glacial sounds. But "glacial" doesn’t mean emotionless—on the contrary. Despite the chill, there's a lot of soul embedded in each track.

𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰?
I grew up listening to rap while living in the suburbs of Lyon as a kid. Later, when I moved into the city centre for university, I discovered electronic music. So yes, my environment has always shaped my musical taste—just like it does for everyone, I believe. Our preferences are influenced by sociological data: age, ethnicity, the country we grow up in, our parents' professions, and so on.

But beyond that, my uncle, who I lived with when I was younger, had a big impact. During the peak of the Emule era, he downloaded every US rap album he could find and burned them onto blank CDs. When I came home from school, I would pick one at random and discover a new album every day. That routine really shaped my digging habit. These days, the Bandcamp community is a big influence for me.

I’m working on Vision Pro Dubs, a various artists project that started as a special episode of my Cremation of Care radio show. It brings together contemporary and cutting-edge smooth dub sounds. Besides that, Malesa is working on their second album, and we’re putting together a remix EP of Seta Loto’s last release. I’m also collaborating with Cortex of Light on something exciting!

Yea so i have been working in GN as a sound engineer for over 3 years. I started doing live bands on thursdays before doing club nights and I grew up musically by working with various artists from different scenes. I admire the core of different subcultures and i think there is always some attitude or vision that i picked up along the way forming my own musical taste

𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
The idea behind the curation is to bring out my friends that i have worked with to get to know one another. I worked with Ciro for his graduation project called Last Paradise together with 6 other SNDO graduates, touching the theatrical element of what can be music performance. Laura (RRRadiant) used to be my studio mate back at a.round studio with whom i grew very fond of as a person and as a collaborative spirit. She also does the artwork for my Radio TNP series Pseudosonik. Pittori Locali is the band i have been digging a lot ever since we met on Keep Space Fest 2024 in Utrecht, where it showcased the collision of DJ ‘digging’ culture with live improv musicians. And Lars (Jaine) is also one of the most interesting curators at the moment in Amsterdam with his crew Ponte Neuro which just collaborated with Knekelhuis during this year’s ADE at Phonolake which was my ADE highlight. All of these different acts i have never seen together and wanted to bring that spirit in one curation night.

𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂? 𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗴𝗶𝗴𝘀, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽?
My most current project is running the studio Scarlab at NDSM Amsterdam. Its a live room and creator/maker hub for people who want to build their own instruments, make music and perform for a small intimate audience that further emphasise collaboration between different artistic disciplines.
