Artist Statement – Omid Saidi:
I am Omid Saidi, a musician from Bushehr, a city in southern Iran. Khargian Gazelle is my first official solo album as a composer and vocalist. Before this, I released the album In the Oil Fields with the group Otagh.
This album intertwines elements of southern Iranian folk music with electronic textures, forming a new space to revisit the natural world of Iran’s south—from plains and rivers to palm groves and the Persian Gulf.
Yet, nature is not merely a subject here. It is a vessel—one through which protest, longing, and endurance are voiced in a world that is constantly changing.
Kharg is an oil-rich island in southern Iran, known for its unique environment. It is also marked by the forced presence of gazelles that were relocated there, gradually reshaping the island’s natural landscape.
