Black (All Black Everything)

King is a 29-year-old, Toronto born and raised individual who knows no bounds when it comes to conquering the hardships life should offer. These hardships have led him to his enormous ambition to be the best that he can be. One of the most challenging times of his life was when he was incarcerated for 2 years, through that struggle he came out knowing that he had to make a change.  A change not only to his life but to influence a change in others as well, others who are struggling as he was. 
	King’s motivation comes from an endless variety of outlets but one of his strongest motivators to succeed is for the loved ones he has lost. Being in the life he once led, he has lost family and great friends through terrible illnesses and horrific accidents, the most public being the 2012 Eaton Centre Shooting. Though this grief would cripple any individual it empowers King to work that much harder to create something that will help motivate and inspire rather than succumb to pain and hatred. His main purpose has always been to achieve greatness not only for himself but for those who no longer have the opportunity.
	Since his release he has taken great strides towards success, this would include writing and directing a suicidal prevention ad for the Toronto Transit Commission through with Pact films. As well as co-directing a short film titled “My Brother” through Plant And Focus which was screened at the 2013 TIFF Lightbox festival and received the award of Fan Favourite. Alongside his work in film he also dedicates a lot of his time to volunteering for our city. Some examples would be; his role on as a Youth Ambassador on the Pan Am 2015 Games youth committee, he has also lead many workshops in writing and has done motivational speeches to help youth around the city. Even with all his success in film and his remarkable volunteering throughout the city, his true passion was for music and spoken word. 
King’s work ethic, as well as his drive to represent his community soars through his poetry and music. He writes about the world he comes from and still inhabits, shining a harsh light on its flaws and celebrating its beauty. His poetic voice is singular and he is not afraid to go places that are difficult, to challenge himself and his listeners. He challenges everyone to look beyond their everyday superficial masks to the issues, fears and anger that really fuel us all.  Through his amazing talents King has achieved remarkable success, stemming from his performances across the city to his remarkable awards and bursary. His most recent and prestigious award was being announced the TD Michaelle Jean Bursary winner in the arts, it was awarded to King to help complete his debut album. “Field Of Dreams” will be an album to remember which pays homage to Al-Nadhir, Nixon Nirmalendran, Shmar Paris, and Jamal Roache.
