Since its founding in 2003, Tempa’s Tempa Allstars series has been instrumental in both defining and expanding the boundaries of the dubstep sound as it emerged from its crucible in South London, and over its history to date it has featured music by many of the genre’s iconic producers. The first edition since 2010, Tempa Allstars Vol. 07 offers another potent shot of chestplate-shuddering bass, dancefloor pressure and heavyweight atmosphere from rising artists Wen, Innasound, Batu, Perverse, Alex Coulton and AxH.

The producers selected for Vol. 07 are making music that crosses tempo boundaries, and is instead bound by a shared atmosphere: deeply rooted and sub-heavy, yet still infused with burning rave energy. The music on Tempa Allstars Vol. 07 reflects that diversity of approach. Innasound, AxH and Perverse all offer firey, focused takes on the classic dubstep template. Innasound’s ‘Step Forward’ wanders through a gorgeous, expansive landscape of bleeps and roaring bass, while the peak time halfstep of AxH’s ‘Nano’ hits with the force of an earthquake, its flurries of kicks, toms and percussion rapidly reshuffling around one another in a deadly dance. Perverse’s ‘Jacobin’ is thrillingly minimalist, its grimey machine gun blasts of percussion ringing out into vertigo-inducing empty space.

Elsewhere, Wen, Alex Coulton and Batu draw the same atmosphere of dread into seething techno structures. Wen follows up this year’s Parris collaboration on Tempa with ‘Push Back’, a weaponised voyage through haunted grime atmospheres and deftly swung percussion. In Alex Coulton’s ‘Equilibrium’, the freaked-out shrieks of a dub siren usher in a barrage of tuned percussion and barbed kickdrums. The second 12″ closes with the metallic rough ‘n’ tumble of Batu’s ‘Ghosted’, a symphony of intricately weighted percussion that builds to a towering, furnace-hot climax.

DJ Di'jital has been a staple of the classic Detroit electro sound for more than two decades. While boasting early releases on the legendary Direct Beat imprint, he also shares releases on Underground Resistance and Twilight 76 Records. Di'jital is one of the few verteran Detroit innovators pushing the electro doctrine today. Di'jital launched his Di'jital Axcess label in 2012 showcasing mostly his own work. He's currently prepping his 8th installment for the label. 

With a knack for classic Detroit and Chicago house, techno, and electro bangers and skilled turntableism, we're thrilled to present this mix by one of our favorite Detroit artists.

This is a rather more subtle remix than how i usually work. Ii was asked to put together for the port of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for the Nintendo 3DS and none of the original stems were available for the project, just surround sound files. The brief was to update the original material and add our own spin on the works. I'm really with the results and it is always a pleasure to work with Amon's material. King Cannibal wasn’t always as beastly as you’d think. Dylan Richards a.k.a. “Ninja’s first (and only?) hard man” has a snaked history, rubbing shoulders with personal heroes and all of it preemptively flagged for greatness by numerous taste-makers publications, based on his trilogy of under-the-counter mix CDs recorded under this former name - ‘ZILLA’
 
Comprised of hundreds of tracks, these hand-sprayed CDs sold out in days and earned high praise on a global scale, so much so that Warp Records took note and invited ‘ZILLA’ along with DJ partner Buddy Peace to compile a retrospective of the label. Released late September 2004 as part of the 'WARP VISION The Videos' DVD, the mix entitled 'Watch And Repeat Play' was a startlingly original tour-de-force, over 70 minutes the two DJs reworking and rewiring the label's back catalogue, twisting the already twisted into sonic maelstrom.
 
Richards began exploring solo production, perfecting an industrial take on dancehall, dubstep & drum n bass with a number of well-received, increasingly darker remixes. The Eureka moment, ‘Aragami Style’, came to be in 2006, and with it a new alias was born. “Whilst 'ZILLA' sleeps at the bottom of the Pacific KING CANNIBAL IS KING OF THE DANCEHALL”.
 
Falling in to the hands of the legendary Amon Tobin, ‘Aragami Style’ took pride of place as the secret weapon King Cannibal’s sets, destroying dancefloors for years whilst Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs championed the track giving it heavy rotation and inviting King Cannibal to prepare for her Experimental show an hour-long soundclash with proto-dubstep producer Scorn. Radio 1 weren't the only station listening, hardcore fan and supporter Eddy Temple Morris even created a section of his show 'The Remix Darkside' in King Cannibal's honour.
 
Having now released his debut album ‘Let The Night Roar’ on Ninja Tune, it seems these long lists of endorsements are no fluke. Piecing together shards of a wide array of influences, utterly uncompromising industrial sounds and razor-edged rhythms shifted shape from dancehall & drum n bass to deep techno & dubstep in what Richards calls his school of ‘brutal deluxe’ production, falling somewhere between the sonic shadows of Amon Tobin and aggressive swagger of The Bug, both fellow Ninjas. 
 
2010 bought 2 North American tours alongside appearances at The Royal Albert Hall, The Apple Store London for Ableton, sound design & gaming work for Microsoft and Ubisoft (Splinter Cell Chaos Theory 3D and Crackdown 2) mixing duties for DJ Food, appearances on the Ninja XX compilation and accompanying tour. The year finished with a DJ Magazine 'compilation of the year' award nomination and his first mix cd 'The Way Of The Ninja' collecting a breath taking 256 tracks into 74 minutes.

Following personal request King Cannibal worked along Bjork on the initial stage of her Biolphilia album, followed by recording and releasing a remix of her song Thunderbolt. A debut release for Ad Noiseam entitled 'All The Colours Of The Night' was also released which once again earned huge support from Mary Anne Hobb's who opened every show of her U.S Road Warrior Tour, Boiler Room and Sonar Festival sets with it's remix of 'Dirt'. 
King Cannibal ends 2012 with a remix and one off performance of iconic Polish composer Witold Lutoslawki for Sacrum Profanum Festival.
